We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ty’ya Goldsmith . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyya below.
Ty’ya, appreciate you joining us today. So, one thing many business owners consider is donating a percentage of sales or profits to an organization or cause. We’d love to hear your thoughts and the story behind how and why you chose the cause or organization you donate to.
Not only am I a Chef and CEO of my company but I also host popup shops. A popup shop is where several vendors come together and sell their products to the general public.
Once a year, I let my vendors come for free but they must bring donations for a charity. I’ve been doing this for 3 years now. In October 2023 thirty five vendors came together and we gave over 120 toys to the Bottomless Toy Chest organization in Troy, Mi. The Bottomless Toy Chest wrap toys all year long for kids that have cancer.
Its so important to give back to others especially sick children. It brought me great joy to assist this charity because no one wants to be sick, especially a child with cancer and if the only way I can assist to see a child smile is with a toy then donating is my privilege. I’ve also donated my time for the past 3 years to go into the organization and help wrap toys for the children as well.
Ty’ya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a 17 year old chef who loves to cook. I’ve had the privilege being on Fox 2 News in 2023, 2022, and 2021. I’ve been on Hot 107.5 with A’Real and Mix 92.3 with Bushman. I’ve been in Voyage Michigan Magazine and Hashtag Boss Magazine and Bold Journey Magazine and now the honor of Canvas Rebel.
I started cooking as a small girl with my great grandmother. She taught me everything I know. Before she passed I wrote down some of her recipes and I use them in my dishes to keep the legacy going.
I told my mom an idea. I told her I wanted to cook and sale dinners. She asked me to prepare her a meal. I made garlic Chicken Alfredo Pasta. She took pictures. She tasted it and gave me a 10 out of 10. What I did not know was that she then posted on social media. I said if I am given 5 orders I will be excited. She told me she had over 30 orders and I needed to start cooking and thats how Tasty Tyya started.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Social Media is critical for my business. I am 17 years old with over 3,000 followers on Facebook and Instagram so staying engaged is important.
I’m always posting my menus on-line. I do not have a brick and mortar so I’m constantly on the move. My goal is to get a Food Truck. I currently have a Go Fund Me page and its under Tasty Tyya. I want to pull up in your city with my truck.
I also record and post live reactions as people eat my food.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My partner in my business is my mother, Nikki Goldsmith-Brown. She is my Marketing Manager. She volunteers to assist me and without her help my business would not be where it is. She produces flyers for me. At events she takes orders for me. She assist customers with questions.
I also am grateful to my aunt Andrea Johnson. She volunteers at popup and helps me with customers as well and without the two of them I could not make it.
