We recently connected with Tyresa Taylor and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyresa, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I originally started my first business Ego Eimi that was inspired from a traumatic time in my later teenage years age 17-20. When I experienced domestic abuse, being at what i thought was the lowest point in my life. Feeling unloved, worthless, confused and unworthy, i hated that feeling and it didn’t make much sense to me nor did my continuance to stay. I came from a family of love, support, kindness and a multitude of a prayer warriors so when i returned back to that foundation, God came and got me together so quick and helped me regain myself and my life again. Once i decided to get out of the mental bondages of this draining situation, I began to move forward again but this time with a more valuable sense of purpose. I kept having this sensation, this feeling of wanting to bring awareness of self worth into other women’s lives. I kept having this urge to want to remind and implement the power of resilience and beauty young women carry and it was something my spirit could not shake . After bout 8 months of soul searching , writing, digging into the depth of my creativity and forming the mission to my brand i finally came up with my business name and vision . It took major repetitions of disciplinary control and coordination. I had to make a choice of confirmation that the path of peace is all i wanted and i yearned for it deeply. I read so many books, watched numerous motivational videos daily and practiced mental resiliency when it came to staying focused and staying encouraged. Ego Eimi means I am / I exist . It encourages people to remember that their existence is a huge impact to the world and have a purpose no matter what their current circumstance may look like. Ive spoken on 10 plus platforms : high schools, juvenile centers etc. Ive created merchandise for the community to support and engage with and participated in pop up shops at community events. Ive also constructed a sold out event of 75+ people including african american vendors of small businesses and community pillars.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Tyresa Taylor is a Seattle native growing up in the heart of South Seattle, moved to Atlanta in June of 2021 for more culture, networking opportunities and expand my speaking engagements to inspire youth and young women. I am a beautician also known as the braid slayer and have been for the past 7 years. I really enjoy being able to make people feel good or even better about themselves because when you look good you feel great. Just late last year i converted/ transformed my brand name to BE HER by Tyresa. It includes the same mission & vision except i now also focus on instilling mental health awareness & resources into young women and men while enhancing the development of individuals and serving the needs to elevate their spiritual and mental well being. My story sets me apart from others , no one has experienced my life and past encounters. The things I teach and mentor to the youth are relatable and better internalized because I’ve actually maneuvered through these obstacles, whether it be anxiety, depression, low self esteem , abuse , real self love issues, leadership/ following etc. I am most proud of the journey ive had thus far , being able to look back on where my mind once was and how it blossomed into the now forces my soul to give effortless gratitude, gratitude for the good , bad and ugly days. Days i didn’t think or know it was possible to overcome , but it did. Demonstrating resiliency & passing it along is one of my biggest assets.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
From creating to converting my brand it has all made my business more translucent. There were times when making adjustments and changes to my business name have been discouraging and also had me questioning my original vision but all in all everything coincided perfectly. I would study and replay some of the greatest speakers speeches, write different topics that would reach and inspire others to live a more free, organized and peaceful lifestyle. /there was plenty of going back to the drawing board , editing , revising and then sometimes starting all over again , a very humbling process. As straight forward as this transition may sound it turned into the complete opposite with a devastating tragedy I encountered. On 09/26/2021 , a few months after i had moved from my home town SEA-ATL I abruptly lost my baby brother to senseless gun violence. This had my mind completely lost and unintentional , my motivation dissolved into nothing. All the previous hard work to obtain my life purpose had crashed. I had no clarity and felt lie i had absolutely nothing to offer to this world again. This was without a doubt the worst time of my life and i had no idea if i could or even wanted to rejuvenate my life or my brand and it affected my mental health like no other. It has been 16 months since and it has been a very long journey of healing that hasn’t bloomed into all that it probably will , it has been a long journey of fighting everyday to be productive and continue to walk into my purpose. This last November is when i made a conscious decision to redeem my life, i was reborn in a sense again by the grace and strength of God. You never fully heal 100% from losing someone so beloved and sacred to you and your family. My vision is even more transparent and valuable to everything I teach and share, these hardships tore me down to the lowest of lows but unlearning to relearn, recreate my intentions came into the fruition of clarity and perseverance to execute. I now have a non profit and an LLC to build generational wealth and that currently works with high school students to create an organized path to empower and educate students to become resilient leaders. I became more resilient, energetic, social and an even more outgoing individual. I share my story and develop meaningful & positive relationships with business partners and other entrepreneurs. I value my family and village . I am very open minded because you never know what someone is dealing with or going through. Every human being in my eyes exist with purpose. I am committed daily to enhancing the development of individuals by setting the example of tenacity . There is so much power in not giving up.
