We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tyrell Ware a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyrell, thanks for joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?
One of the most important lessons that I have learned and still learning is to always stay ready. There is a saying that goes, “if you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready. Atlanta is a great industry for modeling and acting but sometimes the jobs can be spaced out. Meaning there are times when you aren’t working in your field as much. I remember my agent called me a few years back and and he had a job for me. I was honest and told him that I was not ready. I remember him saying, “this is the ready game.” You always need to be prepared. It was true then and true to this day. You never know when the opportunity will appear. Sometimes you get days to prepare for it, other times they may need you immediately. The lesson I am learning is to stay prepared even when things aren’t as busy.
Tyrell, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Tyrell Ware and i am a professional model and actor based in Atlanta. I started modeling when me and a friend of mine went into an ooen call to find new faces. We were selected and from there I started my professional career on the runway a week later. I have modeled for Macys, Belk and Steinmart and many other companies. I have walked the runway for Sean Jean, Steve Harvey and Russell Simmon’s Argyle Culture. I have appeared in ads for Coors, Icehouse, and NBA 2k as a motion capture actor. I think the main componet that sets me apart from others is that I am not just a model or actor. I am a certified life coach and motivational speaker. I have created my own program that has a mental fitness aspect. I am a basketball trainer and business owner when I am not modeling. I am proud of the fact that i have helped over 100 kids obtain go to college through my basketball program.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
I think perseverance and focus are two underrated qualities that you need to be a model and actor. Focus allows you to block out the distractions that attempt to knock you off of your path. If you get knocked off of the path you can’t perservere. Perserverence is essential because that major job may not come when you start your journey. You have to keep going and wait for the job that fits you and your personality. Many people quit before they are about to obtain their major breakthrough. You have to keep going and keep the faith that God has something major for you.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Being on time and being a professional has helped me in both industies. I always try to conduct myself in manner that makes client want use me over and over. I haven’t always succeeded but I learned vauable lessons that I took to the next assignment
