We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tyran Weldon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tyran thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Our mission at Ty Xavier Photography is to create your inspiration. We believe that photography has the power to capture dreams and turn them into tangible memories. Whether it’s a portrait, an editorial shoot, or a corporate event, we strive to exceed expectations and deliver stunning visuals that resonate with our clients.
Our passion for photography stems from the joy of witnessing a client’s reaction when they see their images for the first time. It’s a privilege to be part of their story and to help them cherish their special moments. We’re committed to using our skills and creativity to bring our clients’ visions to life and create lasting memories.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a photographer with a unique blend of artistic vision and technical expertise. Born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, I was initially drawn to the world of film directing. However, my passion for capturing the perfect moment led me to photography.
My journey began at the Art Institute of Atlanta, where I honed my skills and developed a keen eye for composition and lighting. I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, from publications and brands to individuals seeking stunning portraits.
What sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to bringing my clients’ visions to life. I’m not afraid to push boundaries and experiment with unconventional techniques. Whether it’s creating a whimsical fantasy scene or capturing the raw emotion of a real-life moment, I approach every project with the same level of enthusiasm and dedication.
I’m incredibly proud of the work I’ve done and the relationships I’ve built with my clients.
I’m also grateful for the opportunity to mentor and inspire the next generation of photographers. A few years ago, I wanted to make sure I passed along my knowledge. I nurtured and mentored two great photographers, Royce Pearson and Christian Powell. They’ve made me so proud. As I grow and age, I’ve found more appreciation for taking time for myself with almost 20 years of photography.
I believe that photography has the power to evoke emotion, tell stories, and connect people.
I’m excited to continue creating stunning images and sharing my passion with the world.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
While my background in film directing has undoubtedly influenced my photography, I’ve had to unlearn the assumption that the two are directly correlated. Initially, I approached photography with a cinematic mindset, focusing on sweeping shots and dramatic angles. However, I soon realized that the power of a single, well-composed image can be just as impactful, if not more so.
By embracing the unique qualities of photography, I’ve learned to appreciate the subtle nuances of light and shadow, the importance of capturing authentic moments, and the ability to evoke emotion with a single frame. This shift in perspective has allowed me to create more compelling and meaningful work.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Early in my photography career, I was deeply immersed in the artistic side of the medium, drawn to experimental techniques and abstract concepts. However, I also had a strong passion for editorial photography, which demands a balance of creativity and commercial appeal.
At first, I struggled to reconcile these two seemingly disparate styles. I worried that my artistic vision would compromise my ability to meet the needs of clients. But over time, I realized that these two worlds could coexist harmoniously. By infusing my editorial work with a touch of artistic flair, I was able to create images that were both visually striking and commercially viable.
This pivotal moment taught me the importance of adaptability and the value of blending different creative approaches. It also reinforced the idea that the best work often emerges from the intersection of art and commerce.
