We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyra Hall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyra below.
Tyra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
If I could I would have started my business earlier. I feel like 100% of the time we don’t take leaps of faith because it’s human to fear of the unknown. Starting earlier would have only benefited me in the long run, I would have had more experience in the industry, in business and financially. I am a firm believer in divine timing, so I do feel that I started my business at the right time for me. After you get through the “scary” parts it’s pretty rewarding! It’s literally nothing like having your own business.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those of you who are reading an article of mine for the first time, my name is Tyra Hall and I am a licensed aesthetician in the state of Georgia.
I have a skin care studio in Metro Atlanta (Sandy Springs). I provide custom facial experiences to all ages (10+) and any gender. I would say my specialties are hyper pigmentation correction, barrier repair, and acne.
I have been licensed since 2018, my first aesthetic job was hand and stone. I started at hand and stone as a receptionist, and shortly after graduating I transferred to another location. Few months later I was offered the Lead aesthetician position at hand and stone.
I held that position for a little under two years. My clients were everything to me I loved educating them helping them, and making them feel better about themselves. However in corporate America everything is based off of numbers and sales so it leaves very little room to personalize the experience without going against corporate policy.
That is when Fresh Face Skin Bar was born. It took me a little time to brainstorm and gather exactly what I wanted my business model to be. Even after starting in February of 2020, I still evolved in so many ways in my business and still am to this day.
The biggest takeaway I want people to absorb from my brand is that skin care is for all. Skin care is healthcare, skin care is self care! I don’t want people to feel like this is a service they do not need, or it’s a luxury they don’t deserve. I am extremely devoted to breaking barriers in the aesthetic industry to make pharmaceutical skincare treatments more readily available to the masses.
I take extreme pride in how I positively influence and impact my clients. I make a conscious effort to connect with my clients on a deeper level than just what may seem to be, a superficial service. My clients are so loyal to myself, the business and experience I provide. As long as they’re happy and seeing results, I know I’m doing my job.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I don’t know if I would call this a lesson per se. However, I had to unlearn that making mistakes equals failure. I am so hard on myself so the idea of doing something that is not going to benefit me or my business without my knowledge is excruciating. I had to learn to let go in that aspect for my sanity.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Coming from a single parent home there was never really a time where I was able to be ahead in my finances. I have the best mother in the world and I’m sure a lot of people can relate to my upbringing. So it took a lot of strategic planning and extreme faith. Initially I had very little start up capital for my business. I do not recommend this if you have the option. I would really look into building your business credit before even launching your business so that you have more liquidity through higher credit lines/cash advances. That will also help you in the long run as your business scales larger.
