Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tynnetta Thompson Sharon Reed. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tynnetta Thompson, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Often outsiders look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight. Even media and especially movies love to gloss over nitty, gritty details that went into that middle phase of your business – after you started but before you got to where you are today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. Can you talk to us about your scaling up story – what are some of the nitty, gritty details folks should know about?
Well it all started in San Diego California 2020, working as a Manager for a Franchise Salon and COVID-19 hit and I was laid off. One day I was scrolling on TikTok and saw a small business posting how they started their own business making their own products. I was instantly inspired and I told my partner I wanted to start a business making Hair Growth Oil, being that I was already a hairstylist I figured it was perfect and it couldn’t have come at a better time being that I was laid off due to Covid I could out all my time into the business. That’s when Rose Bird Essentials LLC was created. After time Sharon and I decided to move to Houston Texas, about 6 months of living there we started participating in pop up shops, advertising and marketing and posting before we knew it we landed our first pickup location at The Black Store (black owned beauty supply store) in Houston Texas and not to long after we landed our 2nd pickup location at Jolla Bella Beauty Supply Store in Pearland Texas. Now we are in our own suite.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hello my name is Sharon Reed and Tynnetta Thompson and we are the owners of Rose Bird Essentials LLC Beauty and Wellness Studio. We provide Hair Care services and Wellness products and services. We have been in business for 3 years this year. Tynnetta is a Cosmetologist with over 10 years of experience and Sharon has over 8 years of Spiritual and Holistic Health. Rose Bird Essentials is a company created with love, Tynnetta grandmother and grandfather loved birds and also has a beautiful garden and that’s where we came up with our name. Grandma’s and Grandfather’s give the best love and that’s what we wanted to stand on a company created and founded on love. Our Beauty and Wellness Studio is located in Pearland Texas and have services available from all natural hair and extensions services to meditation and reiki sessions.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
We made the decision to sell on our website. When we created Rose Bird Essentials we always knew from the beginning this was going to be a brand. With experience Sharon has from being a Pro Skater we used the knowledge of being a brand that our brand matters the most. Yes being on Etsy and Amazon gets you the sales but being there doesn’t build real relationships with each and every customer.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
We work with a company called Square where we created our website with. With the features the company provides we are able to create loyalty clients where it’s based on how many visits or purchases you make.
