Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to TyMicia Willis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi TyMicia, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
My greatest hope is that my legacy reflects not only my work, but that I am remembered for the depth of my character and my empathy for others. I’m no stranger to adversity. Throughout my life, I’ve faced both physical and mental health challenges, often compounded by financial hardships—but I’ve never let those obstacles define me. I’ve always chosen resilience, and I continue to push forward with purpose and determination. My journey hasn’t been traditional. I left school early, experienced an unexpected pregnancy, and faced a period of homelessness. After giving birth to my daughter, I nearly lost my life due to serious complications—but I beat the odds. I survived, my daughter was healthy, and I found a renewed sense of purpose. Eventually, I returned to school and earned my degree. Every challenge became a stepping stone, and every setback shaped the strength and passion I bring into my work. That chapter of my life is what taught me resilience, purpose, and the power of perseverance that I possess today. Most importantly, I want my daughter to look back and say, ‘My mother never gave up. She earned everything she had through hard work and determination.’ I strive to be the kind of woman she aspires to emulate—someone whose contributions to this world are both meaningful and commendable.

TyMicia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I didn’t originally set out to work in the hair industry. Growing up, doing hair wasn’t something I was particularly drawn to. I first picked it up in college as a way to earn some extra money. Over the years, I would occasionally offer braiding and loc services on the side while working full-time. Eventually, my interest in locs grew—not just as a hairstyle, but as a form of art and cultural expression. That curiosity turned into passion.
I began investing in my craft by purchasing a salon chair, portable wash bowl, and dryer, and setting up a small space in my townhome. I took clients when I could, although time was limited because of my demanding state job. Still, I knew that in order to grow, I needed to fully commit. One day, I came across a salon job posting on Instagram and decided to take a leap of faith. I applied, got the position, and within hours of being hired, I submitted my two weeks’ notice.
It was my first time working in a professional salon setting, and it was both a challenge and a learning experience. After a year and a half, I realized I had outgrown that space and was ready for something more. So once again, I stepped out on faith—this time to launch my own business. Within two months, I officially opened the doors to my own loc studio — TyMeless Loc Studio! It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
TyMeless Loc Studio offers specialized natural hair care services with a primary focus on locs—including starter locs, retwists, interlocking, microlocs, loc styling, and maintenance. In addition to services, the studio is developing a line of curated hair care products designed to promote healthy scalp conditions, strengthen hair, and support loc longevity.
What sets TyMeless Loc Studio apart is its deep commitment to the health and integrity of each client’s hair. The studio provides more than just hairstyling—it offers a relaxing, judgment-free environment where clients feel cared for, seen, and valued. Every appointment is an opportunity to educate clients on proper hair care, help them embrace their natural beauty, and celebrate their loc journey as a form of self-expression and empowerment.
TyMeless Loc Studio solves several common problems clients face:
• Damage from improper maintenance or lack of education about loc care
• Lack of trustworthy, consistent, and knowledgeable locticians
• Inaccessibility to a peaceful, welcoming salon experience—especially for clients seeking a safe space to relax, decompress, and be themselves
Ultimately, TyMeless Loc Studio is more than a salon—it’s a space of healing, growth, and transformation, where every crown is treated like royalty.
What I want potential clients to know is that TyMeless Loc Studio is rooted in integrity, passion, and education. I am client-centered and a safe space where healing is encouraged. It is a place that provides more than a style, but a journey. This studio was built on Faith & Fearlessness. The brand is a testimony to stepping out on faith, following purpose, and turning passion into legacy. That spirit of perseverance is woven into the work and inspires everyone who walks through the door. That is what I am most proud of!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I offer a specialized service that not everyone in this industry can execute at a high level. In this line of work, your clients are your greatest marketing tool—they’re walking billboards for your brand. As people began to see my work around, curiosity and interest naturally followed. One client turned into another, and that momentum grew steadily through word of mouth until I found myself fully booked.
What sets me apart is the consistent quality of my work, the luxury experience I provide, and the value clients receive for the price. I’ve created an environment where clients know exactly what to expect—professionalism, excellence, and care—and that level of consistency keeps them coming back. It’s not just about hair; it’s about delivering a service worth paying for every time.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My clients are truly the heart of my business. I strive to give each person an experience that feels personal, elevated, and unforgettable—so much so that they’re excited to share where they got their hair done. Their word-of-mouth referrals have played a major role in growing my clientele.
In addition to that organic growth, I’ve also been intentional about marketing through social media, distributing business cards in the community, attending networking events, and investing in paid advertising such as Google Ads. It’s been a combination of strategy and genuine client satisfaction that has helped my brand grow and stay visible.
