Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tyler Wittkofsky. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tyler, appreciate you joining us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
During my six-year tenure at a prior organization, I led the company to consistent recognition and awards, both professionally and personally. The pinnacle of my career at this establishment abruptly concluded one day with no warning. Despite referencing the employee handbook provisions requiring notice prior to termination, the at-will employment statute prevailed, leading to an unforeseen and immediate dismissal.
This experience profoundly impressed upon me the transient nature of corporate loyalty and the vulnerability of one’s professional standing. It served as a stark reminder that, despite years of dedicated service and accomplishments, one’s tenure can be abruptly terminated without regard for past contributions.
This lesson became a cornerstone in the establishment of my own enterprise, Tea With Coffee Media. The primary objective shifted from individual accolades to creating a platform fostering a community of like-minded individuals. This community aimed to monetize passions while providing support to independent content creators.
The transition from corporate leadership to entrepreneurship marked a strategic departure from reliance on organizational structures to a commitment to principled business practices. Tea With Coffee Media emerged as a testament to the belief that professional endeavors should be guided by integrity, creativity, and communal support. In this paradigm, dedication and proficiency are not expendable commodities but foundational values that contribute to the sustained success of both individuals and the collective community.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Tyler Wittkofsky, an award-winning marketing and communications professional currently serving as the President and Publisher of Tea With Coffee Media. My journey, rooted in the enchanting southern coast of North Carolina, is a blend of triumphs, personal growth, and a diverse range of professional experiences.
My foray into the literary world was nurtured by a family that revered the written word, with my English teacher grandmother being a significant influence. Despite unforeseen challenges in college, including battling addiction and grappling with undiagnosed mental illness, my unwavering determination led me to triumph over these personal struggles.
In 2012, I discovered the therapeutic power of poetry, using it to navigate the complexities of anxiety, bipolar disorder, and depression. This transformative journey culminated in the release of my debut collection, “Coffee, Alcohol, and Heartbreak,” in March 2020—a poignant exploration of my experiences from 2012 to 2016.
Transitioning to novellas in 2019, I released “(Not) Alone,” addressing the intricate challenges of living with mental illness. The success of this debut was followed by the well-received “The Seeds of Love: Sunflower Kisses Book One” in 2021, a romance novel intricately woven around the desires of a mentally ill young man.
Delving into short stories in 2020, I found myself embraced by prestigious anthologies, showcasing my work to the world. In 2021, I unveiled www.TylerWittkofsky.com, a digital haven for book reviews, captivating Coffee Chat interviews, and profound insights on mental health, marketing, traveling, and writing.
Driven by passion, I co-founded Tea With Coffee Media in 2022—a small press dedicated to amplifying the voices of indie media producers. Beyond writing, I connect with audiences through podcasts, co-hosting Back Porch Parley and currently co-hosting the engaging Cook the Books podcast.
Currently, my wife Grace and I, accompanied by our loyal canine companions Dutch and Belle, traverse the United States in an enchanted RV, chronicling our adventures in the enthralling blog Adventure With Coffee.
On the professional front, my experience extends to roles such as President at The Wittkofsky Company, Communications Associate at Red Carrot, Marketing Director at BlueTone Media, Public Information Officer at Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer, and Coordinator for Community and Donor Relations at Brunswick Community College Foundation.
I take pride in orchestrating comprehensive digital strategies for non-profits, securing increased event participation, and garnering impressive growth in followers for partner organizations. In my role at Red Carrot, I developed PR communications and outreach campaigns for science and climate-change issues, showcasing my versatility.
At BlueTone Media, I led digital and traditional marketing efforts for over 50 clients, managing diverse teams and ensuring consistency in marketing reporting. As the Publisher at Tea With Coffee Media, I oversee departmental decisions, acquire and develop content from indie media producers, and design and coordinate promotional campaigns.
In my role as a Public Information Officer, I played a key role in leading the organization to multiple community-based awards and utilized my creative skills to engage followers. As the Coordinator for Community and Donor Relations at Brunswick Community College Foundation, I increased media coverage, implemented organic marketing strategies, and enhanced donor giving.
My journey is a testament to resilience, overcoming addiction and undiagnosed mental illness. Through Tea With Coffee Media, I aim to amplify indie voices and inspire others to navigate challenges with strength and hope. Join me on this journey of literature, podcasting, and independent media, and let’s create a narrative that resonates with strength and authenticity.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Supporting artists and small businesses is crucial for fostering a thriving creative ecosystem, and there are practical, cost-effective ways society can contribute.
Firstly, engage in strategic social media interaction. Following, liking, and sharing content amplifies the reach of artists and businesses. It’s a digital form of endorsement that requires minimal effort but yields significant impact.
Additionally, leaving reviews is beneficial. Leaving thoughtful reviews on platforms like Amazon, Etsy, or podcast directories boosts visibility and credibility. This not only aids individual creators but also contributes to the overall reputation of the creative community.
Engaging in networking is another effective approach. Participation in virtual events, joining relevant online communities, and fostering connections with creatives can lead to collaborative opportunities and a strengthened support system.
Finally, the Word-of-Mouth remains a powerful tool. Recommending favorite artists and businesses to friends, colleagues, and acquaintances creates organic growth. Personal recommendations carry weight and contribute to sustained success.
In conclusion, supporting artists and small businesses need not be a financial burden. Implementing these strategic actions can collectively contribute to the sustainability and prosperity of the creative ecosystem.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the unexpected yet profoundly meaningful connections that sprout from my work. Picture this: someone reads my book or hears me on a podcast, and suddenly, I’m not just an author or a voice—they reach out to say I’ve inspired them or, in some instances, played a part in saving their lives.
It’s like receiving a surprise bouquet of gratitude, and the impact is immeasurable. I’ve had the privilege of forging friendships with incredible individuals who found solace or inspiration in my creative endeavors. It’s not just about crafting stories or shaping content; it’s about being a beacon of hope for those who might be navigating stormy seas.
In the grand tapestry of creativity, knowing that my work serves as a symbol of hope for those who feel lost is the most rewarding brushstroke. It’s the kind of connection that transcends pages and airwaves, reminding me that art has the power to be a lighthouse in the darkest of nights. And that, my friends, is the artistry of making a difference.
