We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tyler Visagie a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tyler thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I grew up in Cincinnati, OH and attended Wittenberg University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and played football. After graduating in 2014, I backpacked around Europe for 5 weeks and ran with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. After I worked at Speedway LLC as a marketing analyst. At 25, I had a “quarter life crisis” where I decided to sell all my possessions and explore the world. I spent a year working on WWOOF farms (raw dairy/hemp farm in Colorado, vineyard in California, and eco-boutique resort in Hawaii) then spent a year backpacking to 20 different countries. I accomplished one of his life goals of circumventing the world. In October 2020 I moved to Austin, TX pursuing modeling and acting.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born in Chicago, IL then a year later moved and grew up in Cincinnati, OH. I was a three sport athlete at Moeller High School: Football, Wrestling, Rugby. Team Captain of a 17-0 State Champion Rugby team. I attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and played football all four years.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
They’re silly and meant to build egos. If someone shows me an image of an NFT they own, I can then google that exact image and take a screen shot of it…it makes the NFT meaningless.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
If you just put your nose to the grindstone, don’t rock the boat, let your hard work speak for itself, then people will recognize your hard work and give you what you’ve earned/deserve.
I realized that’s not how life works. “Squeaky wheel gets the grease.”
If you want something in this world, you have to speak up and be loud about it while also doing the work.
You’ll get left in the dust if you don’t speak up about what you truly want in this world.
