We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyler “T” Lang. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyler below.
Hi Tyler “T”, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My most meaningful project to date would be my latest album, “The Calm Before.” It took a while to make because I wanted the sound to be right. I didn’t want it to sound exactly like my previous album, “BROKEN.” I wanted “The Cam Before” to have a bit of influence from “BROKEN” but still be its own separate and different project with some stories and some creativity behind it.
Tyler “T”, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I first started music when I was a kid, and then, as a young teen, I began to get into rap music and see where it could take me in the music world. For the longest time, I only wrote songs but never wanted to release them until the right time or until I had that “ONE” song. So, in the meantime, I kept writing until I was about 16 or 17, and I released my first song called “Mark My Words.” It was a groovy rap/pop song about getting your heart broken and telling the person who did it that you will do something great and you’ll be fine without them. I can’t count how often people come up with me and sing, “Mark My words! Mark My Words!” It’s a beautiful feeling to see that people can relate to what you’re going through and sometimes even thank you for giving them something to relate to. My proudest moment would be when I was the opening act/song for Jingleball Festival 2020. That was purely amazing! The headliners that year were incredible. Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, Sam Smith, Doja Cat and many more mainstream artists. It was mindblowing. The main thing that I want people to know about T The Phenomenal is that this is a part-time job for me that I’m looking to make into a full-time one. I love music. I make great music, but this has yet to become a full-time job for me. I’m still split sometimes between Acting and Music as a serious profession. Music helped me through a lot and gives me so much energy whenever I’m performing and going to gigs.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is when your music is good enough that people hear it across your country and other countries! About half a year ago, I just found out I was being listened to in other countries. People in Britain, Dubai, and France were hearing my music, which I found really cool! I know it might sound insignificant to others, but it’s another dream come true for me.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Sharing goes a long way. If you find an artist whom you like to hear and think they are incredible and could use a boost, you should share them. Many people are amazing musicians who work hard but haven’t had the engagement from people who listen to their songs. Most people like to wait and see what else the artist will release to see if they are truly good, and some people want to share the song right there on the spot when they first hear it. If people were to share music more, we would listen to more quality music.
