We were lucky to catch up with Tyler Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler , thanks for joining us today. Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
I believe inclusivity is the foundation of a thriving workplace. When people feel seen, heard, and valued, it leads to higher engagement, creativity, and productivity. It fosters a sense of belonging that enables everyone to bring their best selves to work. One quote I live by is “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.” – Oscar Wilde. Inclusivity goes beyond policies—it’s about fostering a workplace culture where individuals are encouraged to bring their whole selves to work and where differences are not just tolerated but celebrated.
In one of my previous roles, I worked in a team where diversity was genuinely embraced. We didn’t just celebrate our differences but actively encouraged open conversations about them. This allowed me to share my own perspective and feel confident in my contributions. There was a real sense of openness and mutual respect, which made a big difference in the overall morale.
I’ve also been in environments where inclusivity wasn’t prioritized. There were moments where I felt isolated, or my perspective wasn’t fully valued. These experiences reinforced my belief that inclusivity isn’t just about policies but also about creating spaces where people feel genuinely heard

Any advice for managing a team?
I’ve found that one of the most important aspects of managing a team is open communication. It’s crucial to establish a space where team members feel comfortable sharing their thoughts, challenges, and ideas. I always encourage regular check-ins, so everyone knows they have a voice and their concerns are heard. Being understanding towards people because at the end of the. day we are human and only have one life. I love to say “people work for people” because it’s true and how I have succeeded in my workplace.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What I think helped is being authentic every step of the way in life, Making decisions that align with my core values and staying true to my beliefs, even when it feels uncomfortable or when external pressures try to steer me off course. Authenticity to me means being real with myself and others—allowing my unique perspective and strengths to shine, and never losing sight of the person I truly are.
