We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyler Smith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyler below.
Tyler, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Yes, I love being a business owner! I love being able to have complete control of my
own time, space and finances. Don’t get me wrong, I still deal with the same things as a
regular job but I would say the only difference is, that the ball is in my court and I’m
solely responsible if something doesn’t get done on time or correctly. But for the most
part I love being a business owner.
Before starting my own business I used to work a regular job and I knew then it wasn’t
for me. To me, working a regular job was just so hard for me to do, I wasn’t punctual, I
had a hard time grasping being told what to do, in a certain manner and that would
strike a problem! It was the tone of being told to do something that would send me over
the top. I didn’t have a problem being told to do something, if it’s my job but it was the
way it was told to me and delivery is very important when communicating with someone,
especially if you want a specific task done. Of course, I would suck it up and complete
what was asked or told of me to do. But; when lunch break came around.. I would go to
my car, I would cry my eyes out, pray to God, forgetting to eat because I would be so
upset. I would say to God “Lord, please guide me into letting me control and make my
own money and be in control of myself with you working through me lord” and when I
did that so much and let my actions match my words that’s when God was like “Okay,
it’s your time” and honestly I’m happy I worked a regular job so that way I have the
insight that I have now to keep pushing on. Because; a regular job wasn’t for me and I
could name so many instances on why it wasn’t for “ME” you know? So; yes; I just
thank God for taking me through some trials & allowing me to gain insight and wisdom
from him to get me where I’m at now and leading me into the woman I am today!

Tyler, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a licensed Lash Technician, model and entrepreneur. I have my own business called
Daynee Journëë Collections, and it’s natural skin and bodycare for all skin types! I got
into the skincare industry because I love beauty and I say that to say this, I wanted to
enhance my beauty naturally when wanted but my skin I FELT was so bad and nothing
in the stores worked for me, at all. I went to the dermatologist countless times, and I
can’t say I wasted money because I mean they did their job, it just didn’t work for me.
You know? So; I did my own research on skin products that were good for the skin, and
specialized in the problem I was specifically having and I learned what to mix with this
and that, and I had to be very carefully because I wanted it to be natural as possible, I
didn’t put any harsh chemicals, sulfates, parabens nothing in my products. I did this for
TWO years, TWO WHOLE years & I finally got it right! I remember, before launching my
skincare products I used them on myself for a good 6-7 months & I made a post on my
business Facebook page, about letting people try the products before launching and I
had some skincare models that wanted to try the products I had created and it was a
huge success. I went from making acne creams, to soaps, serums, toners. My two
biggest key ingredients are: hyaluronic & salicylic acid because they’re great for the
skin.
I’m mostly proud of how far I’ve come, honestly! It wasn’t easy and sometimes you can’t
see the light at the end of the tunnel which is why I thank God so much and I include
him in everything I do because if it wasn’t for him, and it wouldn’t be no Daynee Journëë
Collections, Model, Lash technician or any of that. He’s the main reason for my
success.
I’m working on new products and services for my clients, but all that’s coming in due
time! I would love to speak more about it but I’m gonna wait on that. But; just stay tuned
this year..Be sure to follow me on all my social media accounts so you can catch the
latest updates about my business & overall lifestyle.
I thank all my customers, clients and strangers who continuously support me!
Everything they do for me, whether it’s buying a product, sharing my content,
commenting, liking/hearting a post and just supporting me in other ways! I thank
everyone, from the bottom of my heart.
One thing I have learned while letting God lead me is that patience is key when trying to
be successful. One thing gets everything!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’m constantly posting about my business, I don’t care if I don’t get any likes, shares,
comments but I’m constantly marketing my business! Me, following those simple
instructions gained me plenty of followers and people who don’t even follow me on
social media who are my top paying customers. My advice to anyone starting a
business and feel like they won’t reach sales, or low following/ers all that is materialistic.
You can make the same amount of money and get the same amount of engagement as
the people who have thousands of followers. Also, don’t let social media fool you it’s a
lot of people who buy followers so the following list isn’t organic.
My advice to you is: POST. POST. POST. POST. Post content consistently. Post your
products or services to enhance engagement. Engage in poll questions with your
followers, pick your content how you want it’s not right or wrong way to do it. I promise
it will work! Challenge yourself & post content for 30 days and watch how your page will
transform. Reels, engagement posts, pictures, videos. Pick your audience, target them.
S/N: Clean your camera, good lighting, and authentic content. DO NOT use any filters
on yourself, services or product when posting content.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Yes, my business went from the side hustle to the main. I’m so invested in my business,
because it’s my 9-5. I put a lot of time and energy into my business, from trying to
opening a location and more!
My key milestones were: Creating a business plan, you will not succeed without a
business plan, something has to be written on my paper first. Because; there’s
absolutely no way you can execute and remember every business tip in your head to
create a successful business. Plan, write & execute. 9 times out of 10 if you write it
down, it’ll become true. Find a business plan template and get to work. There’s plenty of
free one’s out there. If you need help, contact me on any of the contact info below and
I’ll send over my template I used for my business. Secondly; Maintaining customer
relationships, good customer service will keep people coming back, it’s not a cliche
that’s the truth.
Thirdly, keeping a strong online presence that way people can see you engaging with
them through posts on all platforms. I created targeted posts and I became creative with
it. Ask your audience questions, so they’ll engage with you. The more engagement, the
more it’ll bring networking, and when networking has stepped in that’s when your sales
will do what it’s supposed to do. Always remember, “your network is your net worth”.
