We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tyler Seller a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tyler, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about one of the craziest things you’ve experienced in your journey so far.
The craziest story I have is I was in Montreal, and I got a text asking for someone from the company to go film Armani White at a festival in Montreal. So me and my friend Dawson went to take care of it. He wasn’t on the lineup till the next day so we were confused why he wanted people there today. Billie Eilish is his most popular song and Billie Eilish was headlining. So Billie invited Armani to perform his song on stage with her in his biggest crowd. The first time they met and it was cool to be a part of that and admire Billie Eilish and meet her team it was really crazy and special to me.
Tyler, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the music industry originally from selling shoes to rappers before I picked up a camera and had that entrepreneurial mindset. I started to film in clubs for free then moved to concerts through mutual friends. I then started to meet a lot of people who were doing what I was doing and decided to create a team around the world of passionate creatives and people who worked for every opportunity and hustles, to support artists and companies at a cost efficient rate. We provide everything on the production and content side for our clients and work as Uber for creatives. So wherever you need a camera in the world Masshole Media can help you. That is a problem we solve for a lot of people, it’s always hard finding someone that does a consistent job professionally, especially wherever you go in the world and we aim to maximize on that idea. The thing I am most proud of is in a year and a half, we have around 200 creatives worldwide consistently getting jobs, concerts and opportunities. In the creative space it’s hard to bring in people and create a team when you try to make it yourself, but in life you can’t do it alone especially in the music industry and I’m glad everyone around me has bought into the idea and are passionate about it.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
A consistent reminder of resilience is when we get high profile clients, especially artists, each event/concert is different. Even being able to work comes day off show, or when doors opened and you get a text outside the venue. So just being able to stick it out and trust that you will be able to do your job is hard enough. In music everything is changed constantly through the night, so I remind myself it will be good but don’t expect how it’s going to play out. So I’d say just bearing with it and trust that there is always a way in.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Absolutely, I think that’s why companies are made and why all of us are passionate. Masshole Media strives to be the first touring agency that can save artists hundreds of thousands of dollars on tour by the way we handle our production and media. We are the only company using this idea as our core value, and hope to be the company in the future that stays true to that.
