We recently connected with Tyler Ochart and have shared our conversation below.
Tyler , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe there are so many factors that help bring success. Bringing something unique and special to your industry is a must. My chosen industry is really saturated, no matter what city or state you are living in, so I try to bring my filmmaking/storytelling background into every client’s projects, even weddings or events. I have also spent most of my working life in customer service and truly understand its importance. If you are working in a client-based industry, bring that strong and helpful customer service, even with demanding clients. It truly goes a long way to help make you successful. Also, put yourself out there, make big steps, and take chances, there will be failure, but eventually, you’ll find success, even if it’s success on a personal level.

Tyler , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been passionate about films, filmmaking, and that industry in general since I was a child. I remember very vividly and fondly seeing Batman Returns, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Jurassic Park in theaters when I was very young. It was moments like those that lit a spark in my mind at such a young age that I wanted to tell stories from behind the camera. As soon as I had a camera, any camera in my hand, I began filming skits and short films with friends and family.
As a working adult, I was stuck at multiple dead-end jobs that I was always so unhappy at. I never knew what I wanted to do for a career. I would have full days of feeling anxious like I was supposed to be doing something with my life and I wasn’t doing it. It wasn’t until I was 32 that it hit me, that spark from my childhood was still there, it always had been, but the idea of being behind the camera for a career never, stupidly, occurred to me. I quit my job, without anything to fall back on, at the young age of 32. With the amazing support from my then-girlfriend (now wife), I began pursuing my passion professionally. I started by attending Full Sail University online classes for Digital Cinematography.
My goal wasn’t to go to film school and expect a career in Hollywood on movie or TV sets, although that is the dream. I just wanted to have that extra experience to build up my background, open my own business, or land a job as a camera operator at my local news station. While at Full Sail, I was killing it in all my classes, I had so much positive feedback from Professors and students on projects I did. I got into my head that “I can do this. I can start a business doing what I love.”. I set out to do so… unfortunately, that is when Covid hit. Then I got it into my head “Welp, everything is going so amazingly for me. 4.0 GPA, an amazing and supportive girlfriend, my life is on track. So this pandemic is 100% my fault. Sorry, everyone.”.
A few months into the pandemic, when things began to open up, I had an idea. I knew so many local businesses were struggling and I wanted to help them as best as I could. I started an Instagram account and named it All Tyed Up Films. I began reaching out via social media to small locally owned businesses and offered my services for free. What better way to bring in customers to your business than marketing videos. I got responses and I did several social media marketing videos for free. This was a moment in my life when I truly felt proud of what I did. I didn’t care about the outcome for me, I didn’t care about the money or gaining new clients. I liked helping our community. Plus, I got to do what I truly love to do.
I didn’t realize how much of an effect this would have on me starting a business. The responses to the videos from the clients were extremely positive and people were liking them. From the experience I previously had, I wanted to start a business that was heavily focused on community and local businesses. I wanted to support small businesses like mine, I wanted to offer my services at reasonable prices but with great quality work. I wanted to offer soon-to-be brides and grooms cinematic highlights of their special day without breaking the bank during an already expensive time in their lives.
All Tyed Up Films began as a production name for school short film projects, a silly play on my name. Every short film at school was a Tyler Ochart film, the cinematography, the writing, the editing, everything was me, except the acting… you don’t want to see me act. I decided to keep the name for my business, but it needed to be more than just a play on my name, and I needed to be more than just a wedding videographer. Most video production businesses offer wedding videography or event videography, while others produce marketing videos. I knew my skill behind the camera was for more than just weddings, or marketing videos. I wanted to offer my services for everything. Feature-length/short films, weddings, events, marketing. I wanted to be behind the camera, I wanted to capture what my clients wanted. All Tyed Up Films became more than just a playful name, it is all of your filming needs, tied up into one.
Although my dream is to live out my passion on a Hollywood movie set, I started this journey to start my own business or get a job at my local News station. Start a business being behind the camera… Check. Get a job at my local News station as a camera operator… Check. All this before I graduated from Full Sail. In March of 2022, I graduated from Full Sail University, receiving my bachelor’s in Digital Cinematography and graduating as Valedictorian. I now work in the media department for a local church, creating video content and being creative behind the camera.
All Tyed Up Films is me through and through. It’s my life, it’s my future. It’s me doing what I love to do most. Tell stories from behind the camera. I truly believe everyone has a story to tell, and I love helping them tell those stories. From weddings to short films. I’ve learned so much throughout my journey to get to where I am now. I have learned that sitting back quietly doesn’t do anything, I’ve learned to put myself out there, to deal with failures and obstacles, because, in the end, you will find success, even if it’s just on a personal level.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
There are so many rewarding aspects to what I do. A lot of it comes from the responses I get from clients. When a business tells me that they are receiving customers based on an ad I did for them, it truly makes me feel proud of the work I do. The biggest emotional reward I get though is hearing how happy a Bride and Groom are with their wedding video. Getting married is one of the most important and biggest things to happen in a couple’s life. Knowing that you captured their special day perfectly, the emotion, the vibe, the music, the love, truly is such a wonderful feeling. I leave every wedding I do scared to death that I ruined their day because I know how important it is, but it’s never that outcome.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I would say social media, specifically Instagram, but it can’t take all the credit. I started off pushing my services to local businesses via Instagram, but it was these businesses, these clients that would share my work. Without these loyal clients, without their satisfaction in the work I do, I would pretty much not be where I am currently. I am truly grateful for the many loyal clients I have made, and the friendships that I have formed with some of them.
