We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyler Nykole. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyler below.
Tyler, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Since I’ve been little I have constantly been around a camera. Both of my parents were in the military, so my eyes were always open to new experiences and cultures. When I first started photography school, I always wanted to create something that was meaningful to me but would also bring awareness to the world. My last semester in school I created a project called SecondHand Style which features 12 young adults. I wanted to create this project so that these young individuals can showcase their styles through secondhand clothing. “Younger generations found their own sense of style by shopping at thrift stores. Thrift stores brings old fashion to life by the person who buys them and recreates a new style”. These are just a few lines from my artist statement. I wanted people to know that you don’t have to wear high end clothing to make a perfect outfit or get attention from it. I photographed a young lady named Kim her response to her outfit was “I would describe my style as vintage/ urban fitting. I am still stuck in the 90s look, and I try to remix it with a little bit modern time styles. My style makes me feel beautiful inside and out. I feel that it shows my personality and gives out good vibes”.
Tyler, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Tyler Nykole I am a photographer from Tampa, Florida. Traveling at a young age sparked my interest in photography. I specialize in portrait photography including graduations, families, couples, and maternity. A few things that I help solve for my clients is finding locations, helping with outfits & posing. What sets me apart from others is that I have visited a lot of places and seen different cultures that motivated me to be more creative and widen my imagination. I am always ready to give someone a new and fun concept to shoot. I am most proud of creating stories, and making memories for people that I know will last a lifetime.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my Instagram was a struggle because I started from a blank canvas. I started off just by following my friends and posting pictures of them here and there. As I started to take more interesting photos of people and posting, people started to follow me. I started to go to some meet up groups in Tampa, FL that allowed me to connect and interact with other photographers, models, music artists, dancers and others. Being able to attend these groups gave me the ability to grow my social media account. The one main advice I have for those just starting to build their social media presence is to stay consistent and being interacting with your comments.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Things that reward me as a creative artist is being able to create memories for people. Being able to give people the confidence to shine through their pictures is a good feeling as well. Also, when clients leave reviews about yourself, and your business is just sweet.
