We were lucky to catch up with Tyler Miller recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tyler, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Since July of 2020, I have been working on my debut album, “Sophia.” The quality of the music is unlike anything I’ve ever made before. This is the first conceptual project I have ever created, and it has been a very lengthy process. My goal was to create an experience. I want my listeners to feel something deeper than just the music when they hear Sophia. I have spent the last three years making this idea a reality. The alternative-pop album portrays themes of self-reflection, unrequited love, and growing wisdom, hence the name “Sophia,” which translates to “wisdom” in Greek.
I believe success is about making a lasting impact on people’s lives. I want to inspire and influence people the way my favorite artists have influenced me. Music is about more than just entertainment or self-expression. It’s a powerful tool that can help change people’s perspectives and open up new possibilities. My own development as an artist and as a person has been greatly influenced by the artists I admire, and I want to pay that forward by being a positive influence for others. “Sophia” is the first step. This project has been a labor of love. I’ve put my blood, sweat and tears into these six songs.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Tyler Miller. I’m a 21 year old artist from New York. I’ve spent the last 15+ years of my life developing my skillset. I’ve been singing and playing piano for as long as I can remember and I started writing songs when I was 8. The quality of my music has always been most important for me. I believe the best music comes from personal experience. “Sophia” is a translation of raw emotions that I felt during a very hard but important time in my life. My biggest fear is becoming too comfortable. I always aim to challenge myself and continue growing as an artist.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of what I do is seeing my art resonate with people. There is no better feeling than knowing someone connected with my music in a meaningful way. It makes the countless hours spent perfecting a record instantly worth it. That connection is why I make the music. I want my art to act as a vessel that can change someone’s perspective. That’s success to me.
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
I want to inspire people through my music, but it’s bigger than just that. The music is only a portion of the whole story. I recently started teasing my brand, PHILO. Philo is the Greek affix meaning “loving” or “the love of.” Chapter one is “Sophia”: for the love of wisdom. I look forward to sharing this project and starting the next phase of this journey.
