We recently connected with Tyler Mae and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler , thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
That story is still currently being written. I am always taking a risk , betting on myself every day. It is my personal go to be 1% better than I was yesterday. The beginning of the risk began when I got my first few bookings on a feature film by Steve Carell, hit tv show as an extra. I was driving 2 and a half hours out every other day, sometimes everyday for months just to sit in holding another 12-16 hours , waiting to cling to the atmosphere of being near the camera, and principle actors. Making a slight turn in the right direction of frame was apart of my goal but not my end game. My experience was completely wrapped up right in front of me. To understand Acting is knowing your environment. Every detail that makes up the space and every person who plays a role in bringing the bigger picture on screen. I truly enmbrace the entire process of production, story telling piece by piece. My passion evolved into a deeper admiration for what I do and how my presence can enhance everything around me. Taking a risk is inevitable when putting yourself out there is the only way to get anywhere near the room let alone one foot. The greatest risk I have taken so far, is continuing to pursue what I love in all avenues . Regardless of any outside interference , current events, personal trial and tribulation, the passion within the work I have put in over the years always comes into play when it’s time for me to perform. The results of my ventures are still unfolding beautifully no matter how it looks at any point in time. I feel lucky to take risks while knowing and believing the outcome will all work out in my favor in the end.
Tyler , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Tyler Mae, A Hayward , California Native. I’m an Artist of many avenues in the entertainment industry. I got my start in Theater & Performing Arts very young. Around 5 years old I was encouraged by my family to pursue entertainment due to my naturally energetic & animated nature. For years I have trained in acting , many styles of dance & movement, singing , writing , & creative directing among other talents.
Like any goal or dream, you truly must be invested in all that you do for the right reasons. Your will to do better must be at the forefront of Your goal. It’s easy to want & get attention for putting something out for people to see, but if You the Artist are not passionate about the quality of work you produce, the authenticity needed to translate to the masses won’t be there. Take your time & take care of yourself during the process. Your mental health is the most important piece of the Artistry itself. Discipline is a choice. You are the master of your choices & the energy behind them. Set good intentions even on your worst days. Remember to be grateful to have made it this far in your journey.
My main focus is to be my best self one step a time. The whole staircase isn’t going anywhere, so it is key to stay present with what is right in front of Me. Ray Lewis said “ Greatness , is a lot of small things done well.” By shifting my perspective to more positive outlooks, I am conditioning my mind, body & spirit to seek the best of self with love & patience. I remember to be kind to myself during times of fear & frustration. Constantly practicing faith within my work as well as myself upkeeps the consistency needed to press forward even when I’m not feeling motivated. My desire to achieve , peace of mind and true freedom are the spiritual fuels I feed on. I express myself with love to the masses openly because what I put out with good intentions will always return to me 20Fold. The Magic I am made of creates the reality I want to live in. To the divine vessels reading this. 1 thing I can tell you about me, I have always been a high spirit of optimism and miracles. If anything is possible, that means EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is simply being an Artist period. There is a power set within Me specifically designed to engage & fully embrace who I am in any form necessary. Whether it be as a painter, a sculptor, song writer, producer, actor, photographer etc. I can create from within to bring out the best of Me in the representation I choose. There are no limits to how much I can create or what I can create. I can’t be fired, layed off or disqualified as an artist because I am art altogether. The reward is Me & I show gratitude by creating extensions of Me in as many ways as I see fit.
How did you build your audience on social media?
BE YOUR SELF. HAVE FUN. REMEMBER YOUR LIFE IS NOT DETERMINED BY YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA. IGNORE THE NEGATIVE. STAY GROUNDED IN REAL LIFE. POST BECAUSE YOU WANT TO , NOT FOR ANY OTHER REASON. And again. HAVE FUN!
Building an audience is not about having the most followers, the best videos or even being the most popular person. It’s about connecting to people who understand & can relate to you. I like to make people laugh, uplift the social airways and simply be Me. When Ideas come , I find the simple and powerful ways to put it out. I choose to consistently share pieces of my life without compromising my privacy and sanity from outside influences. Social media is just another way to put your true self out there in any form you like. Life is full of moments we can all gather around share, talk & laugh about. By expressing myself with authenticity , the idea of numbers and clout fade. The key is to create a thriving relationship that’s genuine. You audience wants to feel connected to who you are and what you do. Transparency , Authenticity & Fun are your besties. Consistently sharing a piece of your puzzle with confidence, love & intention will boost your interactions & bring in more people who never knew there was someone out there as unique as You.
