We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyler Lord. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyler below.
Tyler, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
This is a great question and something I get asked a lot in the music/film industry. Being successful for me is being able to adapt to each project and artists request. I have a specific way of shooting and editing but i’ve found over the years producing a product that the artist likes with a little Projectblackboxx spin works the best. This also incudes talking with the artist and developing a solid story board to make sure they are excited about what we are about to produce.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Tyler Lord, in the music/film industry I go by Projectblackboxx, which is my company name. I have been filming for 15 years and am currently the Creative Director for Zac Brown Band and Caroline Jones. Over my career I have worked with some of the biggest artists in the world including, Jennifer Lopez, Steve Aoki, Frank Walker, Noah Cyrus.
My role is to create content for each artists as it played out at the concert or event. This is creating photos and video, which represent their brand.
I believe there are a couple things that set me apart from other creators in my field. First, is my ability to get content shot and edited the same day. We live in a world that is moving so fast in media, we, as content creators have to give the artist and fans real time content or it just gets lost. Secondly is the content I create. I get told a lot that each photo and video I create tells a story and has feeling. I take pride in all the work I create and am very passionate about what I do.
The proudest movement I have was being nominated at the Iheart Music Awards for Best Tour Photographer in 2022. Walking the red carpet was pretty cool for a photographer.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Being a creative you can always go down the rabbit hole of ideas and things you’d love to try. The resources early in my career weren’t what they are now. I tried to take advantage of the internet and Youtube to learn new techniques or editing ideas but if I can give advice for any creatives reading this, it’s to watch, learn and put your spin on those ideas. There are many amazing creatives out there who are pushing the boundaries on what is possible.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I talk with Caroline Jones about this a lot. Being with other artists over the years has been amazing but you always want to find someone who is as passionate about the process as you. There were many years I lost the creative drive but when I started to work with Caroline we both sat back and saw that there was someone out there that has the same drive and it has been an amazing 4 years so far working with her and creating her story and brand.
