Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tyler Knott Gregson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tyler Knott, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I don’t feel poetry was ever something I “learned” to do, instead I feared that if I was ever taught how to do it, I’d just do it like whomever taught me, and that was the worst possible outcome for me. I felt poetry was something that came from that quiet, often melancholy place inside, and we just had to listen to let it out. For photography, it was all trial and error and research on the internet for best practices when it came to editing. The “eye” however, was the same as poetry for me, something that either was, or was not, and it was unique to each person.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Tyler Knott Gregson, and I am a best-selling author, poet, photographer, Autistic, and Buddhist. I am one-half of Chasers of the Light, a photography company I own and operate with my wife, Sarah Linden Gregson. In a way, I wear two hats, both creative. We have photographed everything from weddings, elopements, portraits, lifestyle shoots, brand shoots, and the likes, all over the planet. In addition, I am a poet and a published author of 6 books, including a children’s book with my wife, called North Pole Ninjas.
ALL of our pride comes from the inclusive nature that our business projects. We are proud allies to the LGBTQ community, and in truth, photography probably 75% same-sex weddings. I am proud that those who have been or felt marginalized feel safe with us, trust us with their love, and the capturing of it, whether that is with photography, or telling their stories through poetry.
Our website is ChasersOfTheLight.com and we also are on Instagram @TylerKnott, @LadyGregson, and @ChasersOfTheLight.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I think with poetry and with our photography, we strive to get to the heart of the assignment, the true heart. We want to go below surface level, and tell stories of depth, of consequence, of beauty, and of true connection with the world, with each other, and with ourselves. We go to the places we wish everyone would go, but so few do.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The ability to make, to create, to add more things of beauty into the world is the most rewarding part of this whole experience, and as mentioned before, the ability to show people how stunning they are, in every way, is what keeps us going. To see people respond to themselves in the photographs we take, the poetry I write, is a breathtaking experience. Makes it all worth it.
