Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tyler J. Edwards. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tyler J., thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents did an amazing job at showing me that anything is possible. My father came to Canada from Grenada with just $300 to his name and worked on a railroad for years. But he had bigger dreams for him and his family so he used his time outside of work to volunteer with the Liberal Party of Canada. After becoming a staple in his community due to his involvement in politics, he then became a successful paralegal, which eventually led to becoming a Justice of the Peace for the Ontario Court of Justice— all without ever attending university. As he climbed the justice ladder, my mother always made sure I was involved in programs and initiatives that allowed my creativity to thrive.
Tyler J., love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Tyler J. Edwards and I am a Creative who specializes in writing with over 10 years of experience working in creative industries. Whether it was as a fashion designer, a journalist, or a music producer— I have always kept my pulse on ways to bring a higher level of creativity to every task I’m given.
In the world of advertising, my flare can be seen in work for clients such as White Castle, Starbucks, Chevrolet, IKEA, Tim Hortons, Truly Hard Seltzer, Twisted Tea, and Wendy’s. Throughout my career, I have taken home over 25 internationally recognized advertising awards including 2 Gold Clio Awards, 2 Gold ANDYS Awards, 3 One Show Awards, and a Webby Nomination.
By night, I am also a Creative Advisor at Miami Ad School NY where I help the next generation of creatives push themselves towards greatness in our industry.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creativity is driven by “3 E’s”, meaning if it doesn’t entertain you, educate you, or energize you then it probably didn’t come from me. I believe creativity never has a singular motivation behind it so often times, all 3 of these driving forces would be evident in my work.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is that we get the opportunity to use our past experiences to make a cultural shift for the future of our society. Mixing knowledge, imagination, and experience to create solutions is the foundation and the most rewarding part of any creative journey.
