We were lucky to catch up with Tyler Garlej recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Tyler thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?

I currently run my own social media. I have always had a passion for social media and marketing. Even before I started doing photography I was a marketing and content specialist for various companies and organizations. I even wanted to do it as a profession as well so I decided to study Business Marketing and Design Studies at the W.P Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Based on my results so far, I have noticed that through my social media and marketing for my business, I have been able to book more clients based on a reel or post that I made, which is AMAZING. Social media and marketing are a great way for you as a business to connect with your community and the people in it as well. One thing that I would tell someone who does not know much about social media and marketing is to make sure that you are consistent with your brand and what your brand is trying to sell/market.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Tyler Garlej! I am a portrait photographer located in Phoenix, AZ! I was born in Tucson, AZ, but recently moved to the Phoenix Metropolitan area to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing and a Design Studies Minor at the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. I am a 20 year-old, portrait photographer, editor, traveler, and nature lover.

I have always loved learning about the art of photography. I have taken photography workshops and classes to always improve my photography. I have taken fundamentals of digital photography, shooting, editing, applications of lighting, and so much more. I have also interned and worked for local photographers during their sessions, to understand other photographer’s way of posing, composition, lighting, and even editing. I would say that without interning and working for those local photographers, I would not be the photographer I am today. They truly inspired me and I hope through my photography that I inspire the next generation of photographers.

I have a passion for telling a story through the art of photography. Through my photography style, I am passionate about showing others to BE PROUD… BE BOLD… BE YOU! Through my deep understanding of posing, lighting, and composition… I can effortlessly showcase what is most important… YOU!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is being able to make long-lasting memories for people who want those moments cherished. I also find it rewarding when my client gets their online gallery and also order prints through my printing lab. When I see clients do this it makes me feel so proud of what I did for them that they wanted those photos hung up for wall decor, holiday cards, graduation announcements, and so much more.

I tend to keep in touch with my clients by either providing them with an email regarding special news that’s coming up for my company and I also love to write in my blog for people to stay informed of what I have been doing as an owner, student, and teach people about photography as well.
