We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyler Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyler below.
Alright, Tyler thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned the foundation of my current artistic approach during high school, where my art portfolio and advanced placement art classes played pivotal roles. It was in these two classes that I began to view painting and printmaking as central elements of my artistic expression. These environments granted me the freedom to explore and let my creativity flourish without constraints. The encouragement to focus on the act of creating, rather than being overly concerned with the conceptual aspects of my work, has always been a space where I thrive. I’ve found becoming too entangled in the conceptual realm tends to drain my creative energy, resulting in visuals that fall short in comparison.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
From a young age, my passion for creation was evident, as my mom often reminisced about me creating small sculptures during my childhood. While academic excellence may not have been my forte, my performance in art classes was consistently exceptional. I’ve clung to the belief that I am an artist at heart, infusing genuine meaning into the ideas I create. Despite not being the top student overall, I’ve remained undeterred in my artistic pursuits. While I’m fortunate to have a great support system, I’ve learned to be my cheerleader. The accomplishments I’ve achieved over the years serve as a testament to the importance of perseverance, reinforcing the notion that continuing to trust my instincts and forging ahead is important.
