We recently connected with Tyler Burr and have shared our conversation below.
Tyler, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Honestly I’ve always wanted to do something with music. I decided I wanted to rap around 6th or 7th grade, but I remember being a kid in like elementary school & I would take songs that were already out, replace a few words, & act like it was my song. I wanted to be in a band, I used to act like I was performing in front of crowds, all of that. Its always been what I gravitated most toward.

Tyler, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So for anyone who didn’t get a chance to check out the last article, I go by the name Burr. People always wonder where I got the name from, it’s actually my real last name. What Drake say? “Real name no gimmicks”. I’m from Muskegon, Michigan currently living in Arizona. Like I always say I’ve always been into music, but I started really making songs my freshman year of high school. If I had to describe my type of music, I’d say it’s a dreamers love story. There’s a certain feeling of “hope” & “ambition” in my songs. Like I’m searching for something that’ll fulfill me. I also talk about love & women & relationships. I’ve never been too good with that subject, but it might be one of the things that interest me the most. Plus it’s extremely relatable. I’m probably most proud of the music I make. It’s not your typical everyday rap. I think I have a unique style that the hip hop world & music in general needs right now. I want people out there to know, labels & fans alike, that I’m here to give an experience & feeling with my music you can keep with you forever.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing is easily the fan interaction & the feedback on my music. It’s the best feeling in the world when I get a DM or text from someone saying how much they liked a song or project, or how it made them feel. That’s all the reason in the world to keep doing it. There are artist that get caught up in the clout aspect, wanting popularity & instant gratification. That’s never been me. I love doing it for the people & the art.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
It’s funny because my goals, or at least what I thought were my goals, have changed over the years. I used to want to do it because I loved music of course & wanted to make a living from it. But that made it more of a money driven factor. Coming from where I’m from everyone wants to “make it out”. I was trying to get rich as fast as I could to leave & bring everyone with me. As time went on & I grew as an artist, money is still important but the music became the forefront again. I’m obsessed with making amazing music. Especially in these days where every artist just wants a TikTok hit or a viral moment. I want to be timeless. I want to make music that gives people the same feeling & moments my favorite artist gave me. So these days being the best artist I can be & making the best music are the main factors.
