Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tyler Burdic. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Tyler, thanks for joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I’m so blessed to say that I’ve been making a living from my creative work since I was pretty young. As a kid, I always loved listening to pop music but started gravitating more towards music mixes/mashups and even though I didn’t have any idea what I was doing at the time, I knew I wanted to know more about that style of music. So after a few weeks of figuring out the basics and staring at my computer 24/7, I started getting the hang of it and honestly couldn’t get enough! Mixing different songs from different genres became my absolute favorite hobby so I decided to start a business. At the time I really didn’t care about making money off of it but I knew someday I’d need a “big boy job” and figured why not this?! There were definitely times where I chose my business over a social life, school, etc. but it never felt like I’d sacrificed anything because at the end of the day, it was always my bliss. Now ten years later.. Advanced Tracks is a known name in the game for custom music and licensing!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! My name’s Tyler Burdic and I’m a producer & singer/ songwriter originally from Boston, MA! I moved to Los Angeles five or so years ago to pursue music and honestly, at the time I didn’t really know anyone and that was pretty scary at the time because I wasn’t always the best at “meeting people” but I quickly realized that it really is all about who you know in this industry. So with that in mind, I started to venture out, spend my days at coffee shops, and socialize with people that I normally wouldn’t have. Not only was it inevitably good for my career… It was also really good for me as a human because my confidence skyrocketed! There’s a whole lot that you can do to network on your own but I’d be remiss not to mention the school I later attended, Icon Collective. For two years there, I was surrounded by creative/like-minded people and I can’t begin to describe how pivotal it was for my career. I learned all of the technical skills, gained more confidence, and made lifelong friends! Even though I attended the school primarily to better my mixes/mashups company, I ended up falling in love with singing/songwriting instantly. So suddenly I went from producing music behind the desk to right up on stage where I performed original songs for people.. insane right?!
Now I’m able to not only provide custom music for my own clients as a producer, but I’m also able to write songs for those who need help songwriting or produce a song for those who need help producing.
Regardless of the service, I always weigh quality over quantity which I think sets me apart. I really truly care about the details, especially if a client knows what they want. Even if they don’t, I’m always happy to collaborate with people who aren’t fluent in music terms.
I’ve recently been super proud of my songwriting skills and am excited to see where I can go with it next!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is simply sharing the art. It’s so satisfying to let go of fear/doubt and just put yourself out there and share your craft! I’ll never put a song out and then wonder if I shouldn’t have based on the popularity of it. Sure it would be nice to rack up a few million streams… But hey, I’ll be doing what I love in the meantime because that’s really what it’s all about at the end of the day.. Enjoying your art enough to believe in it and share it.
The feeling I get when someone reaches out saying they love one of my songs or that they really related to it, there’s nothing better!

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Personally, I wish I would’ve known about Splice earlier. It’s one of those things where once you’re introduced.. you wonder how you never had it before! I definitely would’ve benefited by having access to Splice’s library of sounds/samples back when I started but I’m so glad I have a subscription now. They’re my daily go-to for not only music components but for inspiration for when I’m feeling stuck!
