We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyler Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyler below.
Tyler, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea came from a combination of my early experiences with baking and my awareness of the health challenges in my community. When I first started baking, I was inspired by the chef at my middle school, who not only made amazing pastries but also demonstrated how food could bring people joy. However, as I began to explore the world of pastries more deeply, I noticed a recurring issue: many desserts were packed with sugar and artificial ingredients, which made them less accessible, especially for people with dietary restrictions or health concerns like diabetes.
Growing up, I saw many people in my community struggle with diabetes, and it got me thinking about how desserts, which are often seen as indulgent treats, could be made in a way that was both healthier and still delicious. I wanted to create a solution—a way to enjoy sweet treats without the excess sugar and additives that are so common in traditional baking.
So, I decided to challenge myself: could I bake delicious pastries that didn’t rely on heavy amounts of sugar or artificial ingredients? I started experimenting with real, whole ingredients and finding ways to reduce sugar while still maintaining the rich flavors that make pastries so appealing. That’s when the idea of baking with intention—creating treats that are made from the heart, with real ingredients—came to life. It was my way of combining my passion for baking with a deeper purpose: making desserts that everyone could enjoy, regardless of their health concerns.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I graduated from Johnson & Wales University, where I majored in Culinary Nutrition, and I’m currently working as a sous chef while pursuing my passion for baking on the side. My journey into this industry was driven by my desire to change how people perceive food in all its forms. Through my website, I offer handmade, made-to-order baked goods, including cakes, cookies, and pies, crafted with care and precision.
What sets me apart is my commitment to providing clients with my undivided attention. I ensure they are kept informed every step of the way, from order placement to delivery. In the event of an issue, I take the time to walk them through any challenges, ensuring that all parties are heard and satisfied. One memorable experience involved a client having difficulty placing an order on my site. I took the initiative to hop on a call and personally guide them through the process, ultimately ensuring their order went through smoothly and they were thrilled with the treats they received.
What I’m most proud of, however, is the growth I’ve seen in my baking skills. Looking back at my early work compared to where I am now, I’m genuinely impressed by how far I’ve come. It’s a constant reminder of the dedication and passion I’ve poured into perfecting my craft, and I look forward to continuing that journey.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that perfectionism was key to success. Early on, I believed that every baked good had to be flawless—nothing less would be acceptable. I thought that striving for perfection would set me apart and ensure my success. However, over time, I realized that this mindset was holding me back.
The turning point came when I started looking back at some of my earlier work. While I had been focused on making everything perfect, I realized that what made my creations special wasn’t just the technical precision—it was the heart and passion I put into each one. I had been so focused on perfection that I was losing sight of the joy and creativity that drew me to this industry in the first place.
I also noticed that clients didn’t always want perfection—they wanted something made with care and love, something that felt personal and authentic. This realization helped me let go of the constant pressure to be perfect, allowing me to embrace the beauty in imperfection and focus more on the process rather than just the outcome.
Now, I focus on creating treats that bring joy, even if they’re not always “picture-perfect.” And, ironically, that’s when I’ve noticed the most growth and satisfaction in my work.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been building strong, personal connections with my customers and turning them into advocates for my brand. Word of mouth has been invaluable in expanding my reach. When I interact with clients, I focus on making each experience unique and memorable, whether through regular updates on their orders or walking them through any issues they might encounter. Clients appreciate the attention to detail and the personal touch, and they’re more likely to recommend me to their friends and family. It all started when I would go to my parent’s job and do bake sales and small competitions to get people interested in my product since then people have continued to order and check in to see how I am doing
