We were lucky to catch up with Tylen Fowlkes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tylen, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
The best thing you can give to your customers is the effort. People like to feel like they’re getting value when spending money with you, they like to get value out of the deal. I always try my best to keep in touch with my supporters and keep them updated on new projects and events. This lets them know that you’re still connected with them and still active in business. I highly suggest when you’re making content, keep your base involved and every once in a while give something back to the community to expand your trust with them and this will ensure that they will keep coming back cause they know you’re legit. The worst thing someone can do is scam a customer for temporary gain, this tactic will shorten your business lifespan and ruin your reputation.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started off pursuing music and since I had a passion for it I decided to take it more seriously. I took to the internet back when Myspace was popular and networked with over 50,000 people without any help promoting my artist name Young Thunder. Once I had done this I realized that I was great at marketing and branding as well which drove me to start my business Street Philosophy LLC. Street Philosophy is a marketing and branding company that uses the power of word of mouth and online brand-building to strengthen a company’s awareness. Since I’m just now launching my business in Vegas its people I advised them on how to start a business and depending on what line of work they’re in I will let them know who would be their ideal client and customer that will identify with their brand. What sets me apart I identify well with what the people want to see and I’m in touch with the streets meaning anywhere not just referring to the hood but all across the board on what people seek for entertainment, that’s one of the reasons I named my company Street Philosophy. I strive to be great every day and what keeps me going is the knowledge of knowing it were moments I wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for the grace of God. I would like to say I’m thankful for every supporter and for those who haven’t heard of me take some time out of your day to Google ‘Young Thunder.”
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
At 15 I was shot as a bystander which cost me a lot of pain and setbacks. I had to undergo at least 5 surgeries and deal with a colostomy bag for 6 months. Even going through this experience I knew it could be a lot worse if I wasn’t here. I had some trauma though, but this trauma became a blessing and a curse, causing me to have really bad trust issues more than I had before and I became more introverted than I already was, but at the same time I was able to move on or recover from a bad situation more quickly than most. Over the years I had to focus on my mental health and ways to improve it in the right places. This mentality enabled me to move forward even after some of the doubt I received while trying to pursue music getting told I wouldn’t make it because the city I’m from lacked a big enough music scene. Regardless I just keep going and I feel blessed to be here to do this interview and I believe that it ain’t how you started but how you finish.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Just being a real Individual. People recognize fake and I’m just a straightforward guy. Building a strong reputation just consists of you being who you are but making who you are stand out in your brand. For example, if you are a person who likes art but at the same time you’re a musician, demonstrate your art
through your album cover to show the people you have other talent. Another way is to always be about your business meaning getting things done and following through on deadlines, consistency is key. Be a trendsetter, someone who thinks outside the box and rides their wave. Everyone is taken so it doesn’t hurt to be different, embrace who you are, and show the world why you deserve your success
