We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tyla-Simone Crayton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tyla-Simone , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s one of the most important lessons you learned in school?
The most important lesson I learned in school was time management. I learned to be proactive , when I had multiple home work assignments due each week. Now, in running a business I use those skills more than ever. Especially, learning how to prioritize my time to get a lot of work done but also protect my mental health.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Tyla-Simone, I am the 18 year old CEO of Sienna Sauce. Sienna Sauce is a condiments company selling the best everything sauces in the market. Our sauces are honey based and gluten free. I started the business back in 2019 at age 14. We are now in World Market nationwide. In Texas we are in HEB and Target.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best way for Sienna Sauce to get new customers has been getting customers to try the product. Whether that’s giving out free samples, doing pop ups in supermarkets, or even taping into the commercial side of the business and getting into restaurants and cafeterias. The sauce sells it’s self it’s delicious.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Before sienna sauce came to life, My mother/partner sold wings out of our house with Sienna Sauce on them. We use that time to do market testing and see if consumers would gravitate towards the sauce and create a demand. Soon we stopped selling the wings but took our profits and invested the money into funding the initial order and manufacturing fees for the sauce.
