Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tyla Flood. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Tyla thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I honestly never thought about doing photography as more than a hobby for a very long time. I took photos of my own kids and family and friends and that eventually led me to bringing my camera with me to the wedding of my friend Jodi’s daughter and I took some photos while I was there. Jodi upon seeing these photos began to push me to pursue photography and would OFTEN tell me things like “you look like a natural with your camera in your hands” and other things like that and eventually it just sunk in that this is what I should be doing. I love it and I’m good at it, and I enjoy bringing joy to others when I give them these beautiful photos of moments they get to keep forever.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Photography started out as a hobby for me and at the insistence of a friend who pushed me to do what she knew I could all along, I have grown into a business. I love it and when you love what you do, it’s just easy. I offer photography services for families, weddings, events, newborns, boudoir, Headshots, etc… I don’t really have a niche so I do a little bit of everything and I love to try new things. I really strive to connect with all my clients in someway even the little kids I work really hard to make a connection with them so that while they’re getting pictures done, everyone is having a good time and it doesn’t feel like sitting down and posing in front of a camera and I feel like that’s really important not to have perfect smiling everybody looking photos every time because I love to capture the moments that you can’t re-create. I provide all of my clients with a digital gallery link and I also do not do image limits so my clients get a ton of pictures and I feel that sets me apart from other photographers.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I get most of my clients from social media, which I feel like these days is where most people get their clients, but I also get a lot of clients from word of mouth because I strive to be very good to my clients and most of my clients tell their friends about me! There is no better advertisement than word-of-mouth!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing about photography for me is the joy that I bring people when I deliver a gallery to a senior mom of her kids, senior pictures and she loves them and she cries, and she tells me how much they mean to her and I know that’s some thing that’s going to mean that much to her for ever I love that I love that I could capture that for her.
