Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tye Erskin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tye, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
I wish I started my career earlier, however I often think… the me back then, could he have handled this dream. I started comedy in 2019 and it was an adjustment to working for myself. Promoting myself and booking my own gigs. As I continue along this journey I gained more confidence in myself and my work that promoting myself now is no issue. Although I wish I started earlier starting when I did made all the sense in the world
Tye, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started doing comedy in 2019, a few months before the pandemic. What set me apart from other in the comedy space is my consistency. I’m always on the road doing new shows, getting my name to different markets and different comedy clubs.
My comedy style is more about current events, what the world looks like now. Also I’m an observational artist. If I see something or notice how both genders behave I’m talking about it on stage.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Early on in my comedy journey I’d focus too much on other comedians on what gigs they booked and how many followers they had. My anxiety and depression was being affected by these metrics. I was envious and projecting my hurt onto others. I became bitter and stayed to myself. I got tired of feeling that way and decided to stop focusing on other people’s journey and focused on mine. I started to work with other comedians who are like minded and have a positive outlook on being a comedian. My mental health has gotten better, along with my writing and creative ability.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I would post three times a day, things that I loved. Such as music, dancing, some of my favorite movie scenes. Things people could relate to. After every set I do I mention my social media, if I only get one follower I’m still satisfied because Rome wasn’t built in a day. Just have to keep building brick by brick.
