Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tyann Segero. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tyann , appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Taking a risk has so many benefits good and bad. In 2021, I followed the Lord’s calling for my life not knowing where it was going to lead me. I visited a familiar church Liberty Outreach Center on 2/7/21 to celebrate my Birthday weekend. I did not know I was going to encounter the most powerful encounter with GOD through Pastor Jewel Allen, the Pastor of LOC that God wanted me to pray for her. We prayed in a way that required her to rest peacefully on my chest. Since then, I have never forgotten that moment. After, I left her church I encountered such an overwhelming experience with GOD, he was requesting some things for me that I had no idea it was going to change my life forever. God was asking me to follow him. God was asking me to join LOC and with that I had to leave my current church and follow GOD. I talked with both churches and received their blessing. I started out to pray during the pandemic during service online and heard from GOD about praying for LOC and knew God had an assignment for me but was quite sure. Instead of being confused about it, I continued to work for GOD and learn as much as I can. By June 19, 2022, I accepted the call to ministry to become a Deaconesses in Training. I was under the leadership and covering of Pastor Teajai and Jewel Allen. I was baptized and attended new members class at well. I was learning so much about myself during my journey. I actually became a “Big Girl”! “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me”.
I had disagreements with family that I did not agree with me, and it made separate myself from my immediate family. I was feeling isolated and lonely during the time of growing and learning. I was discovering so much about myself. My attitude with people and circumstances and how to deal with my emotions. God was teaching me that my walk with him was not about me but about him and his Glory. I had to work on some of my emotional battles with childhood trauma of abandonment We sometimes think that when we have attitudes we give up, but GOD teaches us to deal with it right then and there. He doesn’t want us to come into the house of the Lord and make it about us or any place. If you are like many people, we are people pleasers. Jesus is not a people pleaser. He made sure what ever GOD wanted for his life, he did.
In the bible, at the beginning of his ministry, he called his first disciples with the terse command, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” As his ministry progressed, he told the crowds, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me” (Mark 8:34). We have to deny ourselves, our ways, our attitudes anything that’s does not like of GOD. It taught me so much about me. It taught me that everyone will not understand the calling on your life, everyone will not agree, everyone will not like you or will not be happy for you. You have to stay focused on your assignment for your life. It is attached to your family, friends, and even sometimes people who you don’t know. It has taught me to pray, love, forgive and cherish moments. My Pastoral covering has been my leaders and teachers through these years. They have believed in me.
I have been more disciplined in my finances and became a tither to my church. It has taught me to me more serious about my financial responsibility to myself and my church family. I now attend classes/training to become a Deaconess and I am the Benevolence/Intercessory Prayer Coordinator. I enjoy ministry, people, and GOD. I preached my first sermon on October 1, 2023 titled, “KEEP Calm and Get out of the Way”. I came from the scripture Proverbs 3:5-6. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”.
Even the things GOD takes away from is for our protection. God has a way of saving us from us and our decisions. We have to know when to release things to GOD and fix our focus. I’m greatly honored for my Liberty Outreach family for their love and concern for me. I have had the courage to lead my Non-profit 501c3 Women Destined 4 Greatness, Inc to help with Women Self- Love with Jesus Christ, serving Sarahs House Women and Men Shelter in Ft. Meade and being a Certified Life Purpose Coach. I am glad God chose me for this assignment for the world. I against all odds, I made the right decision to follow GOD. I have had some disappointments, some losses but they have been all worth it all. If I had any advice. Take the risk with GOD. With GOD ” All things are possible”. He will never leave you nor forsake you. My groups motto is: We are Destined 4 Greatness!
Tyann , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am the Founder of Women Destined 4 Greatness, Certified Life Purpose Coach and I am in ministry. I don’t have a college background. I dropped out of high school as a teenage mom, and I went back to school to get my MD high school diploma in my thirty’s. I took a big risk to do what others thought I could never do and that is succeed. I lived in a Womens Shelter at Sarahs House in Ft. Meade as a teenage mom and now I give back to the community under my Non- Profit 501c3.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
My advice to managing a team is follow Gods plan for your life. People will never understand the calling or purpose of the team. There will be some decisions you will have to make that will require no one’s opinions or thoughts. You will have to discern who will be for you and who will be a team player. Your emotions cannot take reverence over the common goal. Thats with any organization when you are following GOD. It is imperative that you spend time with GOD, have accountability partners, and trust what you don’t see.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Your family will never be your greatest supporter. Matter of fact they will be the ones who will tear you down, pray against you, tell you what you aren’t, and will not believe anything that God has set for you. You still have to continue the assignment that God set for your life.
