We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ty Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ty, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
My business is and always has been morphing into more and more of what I envision since I began in 2018. Back then I was just finishing esthetician school and opening my mind past retail sales and expanding more into the service side of things. The idea behind Blissed Out Beauty has always been to set a vibe people will really gravitate towards and feel safe, appreciated, and healed. Really what I have always wanted to do is to utilize my hands to heal and help individuals in my own special way. I have focused on many aspects of my career such as: cosmetic ingredients and formulations, advanced peels and microdermabrasion, microneedling, dermaplaning, eyebrow shaping/tinting/laminating, education, and permanent makeup (PMU). I like to think of myself as a Megazord of esthetics, I have attained many certifications so I feel ready and confident in my own work just like Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers.
Even having done all of this training and educating other estheticians I still felt unsure of what I was doing. When I found PMU I remembered my love for tattooing, I had a stint as a 16 year old tattooing myself and friends. Since 2021 I have been really focused on my goal of opening my own tattoo studio. This was the first time I have had a full vision of my business and how my future can be! I have been continuing to hone in on my skills for body art while continuing to do facial treatments, eyebrows, and PMU. Blissed Out Beauty will be a hybrid space for all things beauty, including body art in the near future. A one stop shop for all of your beauty needs and wants where you feel comfortable and appreciated is what I am aiming for.
Blissed Out Beauty becoming a hybrid beauty and tattoo studio will be a new concept that I think will really be appreciated. It has always been a goal of mine to create a chill atmosphere with consistent and beautiful work. I’m looking forward to creating beautiful work in an atmosphere where people can bliss out.
Ty, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the esthetic industry because I was doing makeup at store like Ulta and Nordstrom for awhile and was encouraged by a few people to pursue the industry. They all pointed me in the right directions for education where I was able to learn and understand the different aspects of the industry. My original goal was to formulate my own beauty line which quickly changed when I started doing eyebrows and facials. When I found my talent sculpting eyebrows, helping client’s achieve their brow goals I really wanted to find a way to make the process for everyday people to get ready or feel more confident consistently. That lead me to researching permanent makeup (PMU). I learned a lot and wanted to find the best training possible. Knowing I did not want to microblade but instead tattoo was easy for me but at the time it was difficult to find good training in Denver. While working for myself and working on my business, at one point I was doing facial treatments, eyebrows, and lashes from my second bedroom in my apartment. Once I found a trainer I was comfortable with I pursued my 132 hour PMU certification. That was a really big accomplishment for me and made me feel empowered to create beauty that can last one to three years. After preparing my business and moving into a studio that had everything I needed I began doing nano-brows, powder brows and lip blushing while still doing facial treatments and brows sculpting.
I previously tattooed when I was younger so I have always been into the idea of being a tattoo artist. I began as an artist and then studied skin as an esthetician so it just made sense. I am continuing to do PMU and my regular esthetic services but I am now focusing on body art. Soon I plan to open my tattoo studio where I can do PMU and body art as my focus.
A chill atmosphere and consistent, beautiful work is all I want to make happen. I hope people are able to chill with me and experience the crafts that I offer!
How’d you meet your business partner?
I don’t have a typical business partner. I actually have a life partner, Jaray, who really helps to guide me and also shares a space with me at our studio! We have been together eight years and just started to build our business’ together in the past few years. It has been wonderful and difficult mixing personal life and business but it is super worth it. We both learn a ton from each other and have extended networks with each other and that is really a beautiful thing!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has been word of mouth and consistent work. Most of my clients find me hearing from their friends who are already clients and from Jaray. Then they do some research and find my Instagram where I showcase the consistency in the work that I offer through clean, clear images. I also make sure to have a little fun with contests and dancing here and there for the algorithm thing. It doesn’t have to be complicated, but it can feel like it is super difficult at times. Just stay resilient and keep striving for your goals.
