We were lucky to catch up with Ty Morrell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ty, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Taking risk to accomplish goals…I say do it. I started training because I love it. I love the atmosphere of it. I love the progress. I love the mindset that you have to have. The job atmosphere was not making me happy. I was at a point in my life where all I had was myself mentally. If I wanted to be happy well…it had to come from within me. I stop working and only invested into myself by investing my knowledge into others. My transformation began once I set boundaries and standards for myself in all phases. Positive words, people and perceptions only. Even if it meant growing apart from people, places and things that I was used to.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Personal Trainer and Amateur/Professional Boxing Coach. I got into boxing in 1998. A rough childhood caused me to have anger issues but boxing was the perfect outlet. Turns out it was more about discipline and self confidence. Exactly what I needed and became pretty good at it. The best part was helping others get better in the ring and out of it. I use boxing as a tool to connect with people on a higher vibration. Weight loss and body sculpting comes with it. Healthier diet. More positive attitude.
I am most proud anyone that decides to better their life choices. Especially the people that have chose me or will choose me to be a part of their journey. I’m tough but yet fun. Of course the results strengthens our bonds. Creating a trust base relationship between us. So grateful that all of those things have been overflowing in my life and others involved in my life lately. That’s what set me apart from others…Authenticity.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes. In a way my side hustle has always involved me being physical in any kind of way. Security, personal training, coaching and underground fight clubs please don’t judge me. Actually I don’t care if you do because I am no longer in that phase of my life. But… It was fun to me so now I do all of those things on a higher level. Sparring professional boxers instead of fight club guys is way better. Harder but the only way to get better is to challenge yourself. Now I know worth and I am more than worth it. I’m my own boss now and the best part is doing what I love.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn for my sanity is that everyone doesn’t love the way you do because everyone doesn’t love themselves. You have to be around people that want to grow on a conscience level. That strides to be a better person everyday. That motivates you. Everyone isn’t going to be proud of you. Standards, values and morals matter. Especially in branding your business and life. I have lost enough friends and family members to know that. Just don’t lose yourself. Stay focused on your goals and the right people will come. Embrace them.
