We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ty Frazier. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ty below.
Ty, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I have ever made was taking the leap to buy a microphone & learning to record myself. Leading up to this I had always recorded at other studios with other engineers, when I finally decided to take make this decision and record myself everything changed and I was truly able to create the sounds & music that was in my head. Prior to this I did intern at a studio and watched countless others mix & engineer their songs so this truly gave me priceless background knowledge before going into recording myself. I encourage all artists & entrepreneurs to take that leap and learn to do something new on your own that pertains to your craft, it will eventually pay off ten fold.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Ty Frazier aka Supa Nova a music producer, engineer and emcee working to elevate the world through my music. Using my extensive musical background and education, I incorporate my personal experiences and real-life lessons to produce, record and engineer unique beats and thought-provoking lyrics for Denver’s most passionate and forward-thinking artists. I specialize in hip hop beats, but can create any sound based on R&B, funk, guitar and keyboards, while always searching for my next challenge to create the industry’s newest and most exciting specialized sound in audio production.
I became enamored with hip-hop from a young age after hearing artists such as 2Pac & DMX when I was a child, I started to study and become a part of the culture of hip-hop after listening to artists from Rakim to Nas to Eazy-E to 50 cent I studied it all and it became apart of me. I provide music production, mixing, mastering, graphic design & music visualizers for independent artists, businesses & creatives. The problems I solve for my clients are finding them the right sound to suit their style, mixing their music until they are truly satisfied with the result & all around providing them a creative vision & direction for their artistry.
I am most proud of the sound, relationships, & shows I have created throughout the music industry & the ability to inspire other artists however big or small. The main things I want potential clients to know about my work is that I am willing to go above & beyond to get the sound you are looking for & I have dedicated my entire life to the pursuit of music & hip-hop culture so I truly do this from the heart & soul so if you are not on that wave length then I am not the one for you.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think society could do much more to support, nurture, and help creatives & artists alike. In my opinion there could be much more put into infrastructure, jobs, services, & community events that revolve around creatives, also putting more into the arts in our schools & teaching young kids to express their creativity & imagination, I know a lot of arts programs in schools are being cut so that is a big issue as well. Overall it seems a lot of our government doesn’t value creatives & artists, their needs to be more grants, more opportunities, more health care, more social services & more respect for our artists & creatives because so much of this world revolves around music, literally so many businesses revolve around music from bars to clubs to venues to sports games music is everywhere.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when people come up and tell you how your music has affected them, or how what you do has inspired them, or how your music helped them thru a tough time. For me that is truly the most rewarding aspect of creating music because it shows that your art can truly effect & change people on a deep level. My driving force behind making music was always because I loved music deeply & loved the culture of hip-hop deeply so for others to recognize & feel the substance behind my lyrics is truly the most rewarding aspect to me.
