Ty, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
Sure. Let me help set the stage, as this was a very exciting experience.
I’ve been in business for almost two years but had the idea for Positive Vibes by Ty years ago and began the planning phase at least one year prior. I worked on various tasks including product selection, design, and fulfillment, but one of the most exciting aspects was designing the company’s website as this would be the main communication with customers to showcase our products and our mission. My plan was to leverage the website to gain the bulk of sales. The website was not taking off as I expected so I thought about other opportunities to connect with my potential customer and share more within the community.
This is when I began to partner with local business owners to attend and sell products at community events, pop-up shops, and local markets. My first vendor event was extremely memorable as my two children attended and I was able to share this experience with them (as they also helped with creating the business and sharing positive quotes and designs). My first customer shared their appreciation for the company’s mission, and goals to spread positivity with others and was happy to make a purchase to support it. My children and I were also appreciative as we were able to immediately realize the impact we could make within the community with our products.
Ty, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am the owner of Positive Vibes by Ty and I have a strong passion for helping others, witnessing growth, and seeing people happy! Learning about others, their stories, struggles, and wins is always intriguing to me because we are all so unique and we have such an opportunity to share and learn from the perspective of others. Growing up I’ve been very fortunate to have family, friends, and supporters that have shown such love for me. This love and support has and continues to motivate me to succeed and encourage me when times are not going as planned. This sparked my mission for Positive Vibes by Ty.
At Positive Vibes by Ty our mission is to uplift, inspire, and empower others to maintain a positive mindset. Our products are designed with concepts of creativity, color, and positive “sayings”.
Through our products, we want to share the act of “positive gifting” to help others celebrate the joyous times in their lives and also uplift them during challenging times. Our products are creative reminders to stay positive and optimistic. Our main focus is to provide products within our community that help people have conversations, build relationships, connect with others, and most importantly, show love! We want to have a positive impact and support the overall well-being of others.! Let’s continue to spread positivity and joy!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A very important lesson I’ve had to unlearn is to “keep information to yourself and don’t share with others”.
I was often told as a child “what goes on in the house, stays in the house”, which really meant to keep your business to yourself and don’t tell others. Although this can be true in some cases, oftentimes it resulted in not communicating with others, not sharing stories, and missing opportunities to get advice and learn from others.
I’ve now learned the importance of networking with others, building relationships, and also sharing your perspective to help others grow. If I learn a new skill or information, I try to ensure to share this information with someone else that can benefit. Through my entrepreneurial experience, I’ve enjoyed meeting different people, learning about how they are growing their businesses, and overall connectivity and support. When we share with others, we create new opportunities for growth and partnerships.

Like many other entrepreneurs, we often dive into our new business journeys while also maintaining a full-time career. This was also the scenario for me. My goal was to start and grow my business, but also keep my full-time job as I navigated and learned my business, customers, and growth strategy.
It often takes dedication and resiliency to focus on various career and business-related goals, but when you are passionate and want them to come to fruition, you stay focused and take it step by step. I continue to manage my career, care for my family, as well as work on my passion for my business! It can be challenging at times, but maintaining a plan, schedule, and task list and leveraging the support of others can help create balance.
