We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Two’s A Party a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Two’s A Party thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project by far for us has been the formation of this group. This is definitely a passion project for us and has been a long time in the making. We’re just two childhood best friends who enjoy playing together and connecting with others musically. We started band together in the 6th grade, and stayed with it all the way through middle and high school. We both then decided to pursue music as a career, attending Victoria College and Texas State University both majoring in Music Education. We both became band directors in different parts of Central Texas, and have been performing professionally in our respective regions. At the beginning of 2024, we decided to officially start a group together after many years of conversation and planning. The journey we took to have our shared creative endeavor come to fruition has in itself been inspiring, exhausting, and rewarding all together, but the culmination of everything has been the most meaningful project we have ever worked on.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We discovered our love for making music while learning our instruments in middle school, but really fell in love with performing for audiences during our first year in college. We were afforded lots of opportunities to play our instruments for large crowds, which allowed us to not just attend the party, but be the party. Once we found our way into the professional music scene, we realized that there was no better party than the two of us together, hence the name: Two’s a Party!
I think the biggest thing that sets us apart from other groups is our versatility and ability to provide various styles of music depending on the need. We cover a wide range of genres such as Jazz, Funk, Soul, R&B, Second-Line Brass, Salsa, Tejano, Country, etc. (You name it, we play it!) We strive to meet the needs of our fans and bring the best musical experience possible. We do this by bringing energetic performances with positive stage presence, crowd interaction, and quality musicianship. Music should always be a good time, and that’s what we bring to the table.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Our biggest goal as a group would be having opportunities to make meaningful connections through public musical performances. We also want to give other musicians in our respective circles opportunities to perform and share that same experience with us. What drives us to continue to chase that goal and put ourselves out there to perform is our overall love for music. It is a creative outlet for us to make a positive contribution in our communities. It is a beautiful thing and the connections we make from it and provide to others is truly amazing.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is the shared experience of music with the audience. In our medium, we are usually brought to bring high energy and good vibes to parties and venues. This energy can’t be given without producing a genuine performance from our perspective, which tends to elicit a genuine response from the audience. It’s almost a spiritual conversation between artist and observer, and is part of why we love performing in the first place. The fact that we get to do what we love all while uplifting others in our community is extremely rewarding.
