We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Two Lanez James. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Two Lanez below.
Alright, Two Lanez thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew I wanted to do music professionally once my friends and family said I should go for it. They told me I was good enough. They said I had a voice that needed to be heard. My teachers in class would say I sounded like I could be a narrator or a storyteller one day and in a way I suppose they were right. One day I went from poems and creative writing to freestyling and rhyming in circles with other lyricists. I was put on the spot by the ones I started rapping with. They recognized my talent right away and this inspired me to sharpen the saw further. It was all the initial feedback I received that made me realize the potential I had. I couldn’t let them down. I couldn’t let myself down. I had to do it. What started as a hobby quickly became a way of life for me. From that point on I went from the streets to the stage with a name and a purpose.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Two Lanez James. I started writing music and rapping at the age of 15. I was influenced heavily by all facets of Hip Hop but Southern Rap is what I’m primarily known for. I’ve performed on stage with several major artists such as 112, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Keke, Mr. Pookie, Big Tuck, Tum Tum and more. I recently featured on a song called Gangsta with Mr. Pookie and Slim D which was produced by guitarist Reggie Webster and is out on all platforms now. Another one of my most popular songs is called Memory Lane so be sure to look for it and add it to your playlist too. My specialty is making music you can ride to.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I would have created a website sooner that way I could have gotten an earlier start on building my online fan base. Most of my attention early on was put towards performing at shows and passing out flyers and music demos. Now my fans can visit TwoLanezJames.com for the latest and greatest news. You can also find me on most Social Media platforms @twolanezjames
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want people to know that anyone can dance, anyone can sing, anyone can rap or do anything they want with music and no one can stop them. Just because someone thinks they can put you in a box or stereotype you into being something they think you should be based on your looks or outward appearance, doesn’t mean they’re right. Art and human culture are meant to be experienced collectively and shared inclusively by everyone, not to be greedily locked away or kept from anyone appreciating it. Say what you wanna say, do what you wanna do. Just be you and if you’re genuine no one can tarnish you. Some people wanted me to stop rapping at one point or another but I’ve always had people in my corner who wanted me to keep going. Just take a guess at who I ended up listening to. No, I don’t do this for the fortune or fame. I do this for the ones who believe in me and for the ones that gave me the name.
