Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Twanny Arnold. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Twanny, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I came up with the name for my brand, SE4, pronounced (C4) like the bomb but spelled differently since C4 is already patented. At the time I was like I wanted a super bomb product with a simple name people could remember. For my brand, KUTE, it was pretty simple cause women always want to be cute. Majority of the time women compliment on another, the first comment they say are, “those are cute”.
Twanny, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, im Twanny Arnold from Atlanta, Ga. Mother of 2, college graduate, and multiple business owner. I have 2 brands that I started in 2015 and 2018. Both of my brands have different meanings and different arenas but both cater to women if all nationalities. In 2028, I went to China alone for a week in order to enhance my knowledge on my products and meet my manufacturers in person. SE4 are hair straighteners that charges mobile devices. I wanted a product of convenience for all women and keep your phone charged at the same time. Kute was founded by my love for different shoes, boots, and fashion.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The first thing I did was work on my personal credit which I funded out of pocket. This helps with obtaining business credit with the credit bureaus since most of them check your personal credit. Then I learned to freeze my credit so that creditors that tell you that they don’t check PG (personal guarantor) won’t be allowed access in order to get credit using only my business credit. At that point I was able to get lines of credit to find my business.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
Both my brands and products I found just by lots of research. I spoke with my vendors for over a span of 3 years. My Chinese friend told me about all the wholesale markets and how to look for them. Once I locked in with a few of them I paid for samples to determine which products worked best for my project. I learned that some items aren’t necessary to have in order to save money so you can make a profit.
