We recently connected with Twanna Joyner Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Twanna , thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
At the Help Center NC , we envision a community where no one goes hungry f0r lack of access to nutritious food and other essentials . Our program design is to bring help and hope by meeting immediate emergency needs first of families facing hunger and hope by empowering families through our enrichment opportunities- creating a healthier and thriving community for all.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
As President and Founder of The Help Center NC, nonprofit organization launched in 2016. As a child I was always drawn to help others or find a solution to help hurting people . I’ve always been passionate about helping people and advocating for people living in distress communities . I became interested in food insecurity through serving as a team lead at a homeless outreach center. After seeing the affects and challenges of food insecurity up close, I decided to start the Help Center NC to improve the hunger relief system for people in need of food and to empower individuals to become self-sufficient.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Recalling my first fundraiser failure, I launched a fundraiser selling water bottles and t-shirts to support the mission work of our organization. I was so excited about our first fundraiser and the time spent to ensure a perfect outcome . My target audience was anyone on social media, volunteers, friends, families and other humanitarian partners. Unfortunately, my team only produce a fraction of revenue from this fundraiser – lesson learned invest in product that produces a greater return. I devised a plan to bring awareness of our work by networking and spending time with chamber members , coffee with business leaders who could possibly become donors or suppliers to our cause – After working with our team for months, we became more conscious of time spent on fundraiser efforts and started doing well with meeting people in the community and allowing them to share our message of help and hope and support started to really come in.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Lead by example – give your team the tools and support needed to get the job done and most importantly- Show your team that you Appreciate them
