We recently connected with Twanita Dozier and have shared our conversation below.
Twanita, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
When I created my platform Boss Up Magazine from scratch, I never thought that it would evolve as much as it did. Although building it from scratch was innovative within itself, I truly feel like the most innovative thing I’ve done is create a mobile app, to compliment my current media platform and still maintain my current mission overall.
Twanita, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Twanita Dozier and I am the CEO of the multimedia platform Boss Up Magazine, as well as the Creator of the mobile app “Book Black.” In 2017, I created Boss Up Magazine to help bridge the gap between media and emerging black entrepreneurs. The Boss Up Magazine platforms offers networking events, features, red carpet media, and a podcast. The Book Black app is a booking directory that focuses on black-owned travel and lodging businesses, such as airbnb, co-working spaces, hotels/resorts, restaurants, food trucks, bookstores, coffee shops, selfie museums, and more! My audience has always been black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs, as I am one myself! I am proud of both of my platforms, as they continue to evolve and serve my audience. I know entrepreneurship is hard and it can very tempting to follow the trends, but i am very proud of myself for always sticking to the audience I serve, my mission, and my vision – no matter the trends or circumstances.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
As a business owner, I have always stood behind the resource of word of mouth and networking to be the prime tools to grow a business. I truly believe these two things go hand in hand and can definitely help with business growth. Word of mouth is very powerful, as it is a way people can bring you clients, business, and opportunities – which in turn leads into networking opportunities. Alot of times, we learn about businesses and services from word of mouth, or just by connecting and networking with others. All in all, it is important to keep these two things going and keep them strong!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Networking is a very powerful source for business, esp. for my platforms. Taking advantage of networking opportunities has allowed me to be apart of amazing projects & events, as well as meet my next client. Networking has allowed for my platforms to be seen and heard by clients I wouldn’t have access to, if it wasn’t for me simply networking.
