Tuzdae, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I began teaching Pilates in 2017, and I was genuinely passionate about it for many reasons. However, by 2020, I found myself feeling disconnected. It started to feel like just another job rather than the fulfilling practice I once loved. I took some time to reflect and realized that the magic of Pilates for me was the deep connection it fostered between my body and mind, along with the inherent self-care and self-love that came with the practice. This realization reignited my passion, and I committed to pouring my energy and soul into my classes, hoping to share that same connection with my clients.
As I continued teaching, I felt increasingly confined by the cookie-cutter environment of the studio where I was working. I sought out new spaces that would allow me to express my creativity. After discussing my frustrations with a colleague who I believed shared my vision, I learned that she wasn’t teaching anywhere else at the moment, much to my Ismay, as I was hoping for some inspiration!
About a week later, she reached out to discuss potential opportunities. During our first lunch meeting, we immediately began brainstorming and left with the general concept for what would soon become SHIFT Pilates. We recognized that our approach was distinct from the existing offerings at other studios. By integrating aspects of neuroscience and subtle body work into the Pilates practice, we felt we could elevate the experience for our clients. Our excitement and belief in this new direction propelled us forward, and soon after, we opened the doors to SHIFT Pilates. Since then, we have continued to embrace this innovative approach without looking back.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a dedicated Pilates instructor with a journey that began in 2107, fueled by my lifelong love for athletics. A couple year high school, I discovered that Pilates provided the missing element in my daily training routine, offering both physical conditioning and a mental calm that no amount of talk therapy has ever achieved.
At SHIFT Pilates, we offer a unique blend of classes inspired by the Pilates method, emphasizing the importance of fascia and the release of tension from fascial lines. Our approach not only enhances physical strength and flexibility but also promotes mental clarity and emotional well-being. We create an environment where clients can engage in self-care and personal growth through their practice.
The primary problem we solve for our clients is the disconnection often experienced in conventional exercise routines. By focusing on the mind-body connection and the intricacies of fascial health, we help individuals improve their physical fitness while cultivation a greater sense of awareness and empowerment in their daily lives.
What sets us apart from others in the industry is our commitment to integrating a scientific understanding of movement with a nurturing, supportive atmosphere. Each client is unique, and we tailor our sessions to meet their individual need and goals.
I am most proud of the community we have built as SHIFT Pilates. It is a space where individuals feel safe to explore their bodies, challenge themselves, and connect with others on a similar journey.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One significant lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that pushing though physical discomfort was always a necessary part of achieving fitness goals. Early in my athletic journey, i was taught that endurance and perseverance were paramount, often at the expense of listening to my body, This mindset led to overtraining and injuries, which hindered my progress and enjoyment of movement.
The turning point came when I began practicing Pilates and learned the importance of mindful movement an body awareness. I discovered that effective training doesn’t always mean pushing harder; instead, it can involve understanding my body’s signals and allowing for recovery and restoration. This shift tin perspective helped me appreciate that progress can be made through gentle exploration and self-compassion, rather than sheer determination alone.
Unlearning this lesson has not only improved my own practice but has also influences the way I approach teaching others. I now emphasize the importance of listening to one’s body and recognizing that every individual’s journey is unique. Thus has fostered a more holistic approach to fitness, focusing on balance and well-being rather than just performance metrics.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Building a reputation within my market has been influenced by several key factors. First and foremost, consistent delivery of high-quality instruction has played a significant role. By focusing on individualized attention and tailoring passions to meet the clients specific needs, we’ve been able to foster strong relationships and trust within the community.
Additionally, ongoing education and professional development have contributed to our credibility. By staying current with industry trends and expanding my knowledge of anatomy, movement mechanics, and wellness practices, we’ve been able to offer informed guidance that resonates with clients.
Engagement with the community, both online and offline, has also been vital, Sharing insights, tips, ad success stories through Instagram has helped create a sense of connection and helped establish us as a resource in the field.
Finally, cultivating a welcoming and supportive environment has encouraged word-of-mouth referrals, further enhancing our reputation. Clients who feel valued and understood are more likely to share their positive experiences, which has proven invaluable in building our standing within the market.
