We recently connected with Tuyaymya Osuna and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tuyaymya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Inspired by these two “timeless” wardrobe pieces – a WHITE TEE and BLACK DRESS – our creative fashion agency prioritizes the essentials of media production; specializing in fashion, lifestyle and beauty.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I grew up along the Tijuana, MX and San Diego, CA border and graduated from the University of California San Diego (UCSD) with a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnic Studies. I began my fashion career about 10 years ago when I graduated with an Associate’s degree in Merchandise Marketing from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM).
Since then, I have explored both the analytical and creative roles within the fashion industry, from corporate fashion buying to freelance media production.
White Tee Black Dress (WTBD) was born out of a creative necessity to find a sense of expression. I’ve always called it my “blank canvas”. The early WTBD years started on tumblr, before becoming a blog, an online apparel boutique then a styling portfolio. It has slowly evolved into what it is today – a woman owned, BIPOC, and LGBTQIA+ represented full service creative production agency. WTBD is based between New York, Los Angeles, San Diego and Tijuana and specializes in fashion, lifestyle and beauty.
White Tee Black Dress works with a team of dedicated photographers and videographers to seamlessly ensure each project is executed with precision. With features in Harper’s Bazaar Espanol, Vanity Fair Italia, Glamour Mexico and a collection of seasons covering the fashion month circuit – New York, London, Milan, Paris, Mexico – the concept for the WTBD agency is simple ; a strong understanding of the essentials allows for meticulous attention to detail and an expansive expression of imagination.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Showing up, consistently, both online and in person. Once the glitz and glam dissipates all that’s left is a dedication to the dream.
Learning how to navigate a variety of roles has given me a vast understanding of the industry and its systems over the last decade. The fashion industry, while incredibly large, can still operate at quite an intimate level most days. The only way to begin building a sense of community is to become an active member ; keep showing up.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I am currently unlearning is the idea of needing to know it all. Early in my career, I believed that running a business meant having all the answers. This mindset led to frustration and burnout because, in reality, no one person can know everything.
The turning point came when I encountered situations where I had to rely on others’ expertise. It taught me the value of collaboration. I realized that true leadership isn’t about having all the answers, but rather about knowing how to ask the right questions and empowering others to contribute their personal knowledge.
Learning to trust my team and delegate responsibilities based on individual strengths has been the most important part of scaling my business. It not only helps foster a more innovative work environment, but allows me to focus on strategic decision-making.
It’s about embracing the idea that this is a journey of continuous learning and improvement – and that it’s ok to ask for help.
