We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Turquoise Teagle. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Turquoise below.
Hi Turquoise, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I received a key/ award and from to the Regional Task Force on homelessness for my work in the homeless sector
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Turquoise 10-year Navy career bestowed them the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the Pistol
Sharpshooter Ribbon. Having served during DADT, Turquoise focused their career on advocating for
rights and equality for all. Being a non-binary person of color, Turquoise faced bullying/ medical
mistreatment. For 9 years, Turquoise fought to raise awareness about the lack of medical support. In
October 2012, their advocacy helped open a new VA clinic dedicated to women’s health.
Since then, Turquoise dedicated their efforts on helping more LGBTQ+, specifically in the homeless
community. In December 2022, they were awarded “Staff of the Year” by the Regional Task Force on
Homelessness. Today, Turquoise works as a case manager for Doors of Change. Their leadership,
commitment, and drive to help the community has made a lasting impact in hundreds of young LGBTQ+
lives.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I believe in always being authentic and connected with the community. I think being present and aware of what the world offers on a constant basis makes the work easier.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
