We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Turner Allen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Turner below.
Turner, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
In 2019, I lost my job at UPS. I remember walking out feeling hopeless. I had no job, no degree and no idea what i was going to do with my life. At the time, I had a small home studio set up where I’d record a few of my friends. Music was the only thing in my life that ever kept my attention. There was something about creating the right transition or blending multiple vocals together just right that scratched an itch for me nothing else ever did. Losing that job at UPS put me at rock bottom, which is exactly where I needed to be to go out and pursue my music dreams. I had nothing else to lose at that point.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve been a professional Recording and Mix Engineer for a little over 5 years. I enrolled at Recording Radio Film Connection (RRFC) in late 2019. During that time I had an Internship at a local recording studio. I was able to get hands-on experience and learned the importance of networking within the industry. Once I graduated from RRFC, the studio hired me as a full time Recording Engineer. Over the next few years I was fortunate enough to build a large clientele and work with multiple platinum selling artists. I am now the Founder and Head Engineer at If We Die We Die Studios. I’ve sacrificed years of my life to build a strong foundation in the music industry and I strive for this studio to do the same for others with the same mentality. If We Die We Die is not just our name, but our mission statement. It means having no Plan B or safety nets and putting your all into a dream or nothing and I won’t settle for nothing. We handle a wide variety of audio projects consisting of artist vocal recording, audio books, commercial audio, and voice overs. My mission is to create a higher expectation of music quality in Cincinnati and elevate the sound of the city.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Music can be very personal. Sometimes I feel more like a therapist than a Recording Engineer. Bonding with artists on such an emotional level and helping them grow and reach their goals has definitely been the most rewarding part of my job.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’m from Stamping Ground, Kentucky. To this day there are less than 1000 residents. Growing up there, having a job in the arts wasn’t just taboo but nearly non-existent. Fortunately for me, circumstances in life led me here but for most that isn’t the case. I want to be an example to young people that you don’t have to just graduate high school and work in a factory or go to college with no plan just because you’re told to, but to explore and find what you’re passionate about and go for it.
