Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tulika Garg Bhatia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tulika Garg , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we talk about all of your success, let’s start with a story of failure. Can you open up about a time when you’ve failed?
Failure to look at the opportunity life was presenting me with.
I come from a family of professionals where education is given utmost importance. So post my graduation in Statistics and MBA like many others, I too had based my definition of success on my corporate career as the singular source of truth. After a successful corporate career of 10 years when I started my own family I made the big decision to take a pause and give my 100% to my kid and my family.
Yes I made that decision and trust me it was the correct one but did I embrace the decision the way I should have. No.
It was a mark of failure for me, while I did not accept it and say it, inside my head I was criticizing myself for failing at balancing motherhood with my career aspirations. Especially when so many wonderful women around me did manage to do so, and so beautifully.
It took me months to look at the bigger picture. Open myself to new experiences, new people, new skills and new passion.
One thing that helped me accept and enjoy and take risks was talking and sharing with other women around me. Women from diverse social / financial backgrounds with diverse experiences. Its only after I allowed myself to learn from other’s experiences and struggles that I found my calling.
So after much procrastination and dilemma, I am proud to share the confluence of my background and my desire to shape the world around me: ‘SOROR – The Sisters Edit’.
SOROR – The Sisters Edit is an early stage femtech company that is on a mission to ‘Unlock the untapped 50% potential of this world’ via a series of tech products designed keeping in mind the needs of women around the world.
I strongly believe “We are made of more and made for more”. We should not settle down for what life has to offer at face value. We must fight and keep reinventing ourselves.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
SOROR – The Sisters Edit is an online community that connects women around the globe, forging alliances to “Unlock the untapped 50% potential of this WORLD”.
At SOROR we are on a mission to talk openly, honestly, and share with each other. With a goal to empower each other by being a role model, offer support, celebrate each other’s wins, and look for opportunities to promote other women.
“I believe, in today’s time-pressed world, we are LOSING the art of human conversation and relying too much on news feeds and posts. However, technology MUST also bring us closer.”
So we are using technology to present a series of products where women can express themselves and share the vast amount of knowledge they have acquired without worrying about having to host an individual blogging platform, or SEO, or marketing, and communication.
At our first product, our blogging website www.sororedit.com all that one has to do is make an account on SOROR website which is a simple 2 step process and start blogging.
We have on purpose kept it as flexible as possible with no minimum word limit, you can add pictures, video’s, even your Instagram videos. We really aim to make the process as smooth and seamless as possible and hence we are constantly taking feedback and enhancing the processes.
Our second product, is in development stage and will be launched very soon. This product will help women work closer builder closer bonds and collaborate at every level be social, emotional, or financial on a real time basis.
As SOROR we believe the power of connecting women using technology will empower them.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Be a multitasker and be self-sufficient.
While yes we should aim to do both in life, in terms of business you can’t know everything and do everything. You need to reach out and seek guidance, support and you absolutely have to delegate.
Growing up we are always thought to be multitaskers and be as self-sufficient as possible and these two qualities have served me well in life but when it comes to starting your own venture you need to take care of a lot diverse topics be it finances, business development, quality control, social media etc etc and needless to say its impossible for anyone to be good at everything and that’s where art of reaching out comes.
Art of reaching out, having faith and empowering someone to do his / her best for you.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Being Consistent and writing down what you will not do.
I think a lot of people pen down what all they wish to do but I went a bit backwards. When I started this venture I wrote for myself what I am not going to do and till date I have kept at it.
Doing this helped me filter opportunities and stay true to my mission, and I guess it shows in my conversations with clients so they trust me. Most of the feature posts that we have done on SOROR are via reference. It’s been like a chain reaction and that’s what I always wanted so this gives me great satisfaction and pleasure in doing what we do.
