We recently connected with Tsebahat Fiseha and have shared our conversation below.
Tsebahat, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
When I was in college, I was invited to a screening on campus by a friend. The movie was a documentary about the Armenian Genocide. This documentary inspired me to write a story. My college friends and I discussed having our own animation studio one day and remained in touch after graduation. Ten years later, my college friends and I were thinking about ideas for our first film as a studio. I brought up the idea of doing an animated short about the Armenian genocide. They agreed! Ten years later, we released a 25 minute short. It was half animation and half live action. “The Patisserie” is definitely a project I consider meaningful, not just because of the content and the duration of completion, but because it was something I thought about doing someday with friends and it came to life. Thoughts become things. So whatever you think about, always make sure it’s something you can look back at one day down the road with satisfaction and pride.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a Fashion Designer, Costume Designer and Illustrator. I provide fashion illustration services to fashion brands. This includes sketching flats, putting together mood boards, designing a collection, and even painting fashion murals. I design and sew dresses for private clients for special occasions as well. I’ve been drawing since I was two years old and sewing since I was 7 years old.
I first dipped my toe in costume design 10 years ago when a friend of my mine asked me to design costumes for a play she was producing. After some theater experience, I progressed to short films with live actors and puppets.
Regardless of the type of designer you are, you’re job is to bring artistic solutions to the table. The service I provide for my theater and film clients are costume sketches and costume fabrication. The advice I want to share for aspiring designers out there is to listen, be organized, create a personal design schedule for yourself, read everything carefully, and clean your work area frequently.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As a creative, the most rewarding thing for me is daydreaming about an idea, writing it down on paper, and then being able to see and touch it in real life. That for me, is the most rewarding thing about being a creative.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The main goal for me is to keep building my brand, promote my services more, and reach out to more clients. There are so many people that need help with their brands and projects.
