We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Truee K. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Truee below.
Truee , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Being a artist/creative is the best route that I took, and for myself, I believe that being able to express yourself in a form of art is a way to share your pain, happiness, problems, and struggles with the world to feel. I believe that art defines a person because of their experiences, and for many individuals, including myself, I am an introvert so my only way that I feel comfortable to express myself is through music. I live in my head, and at times for too long that when I make music, it feels like I am letting everything inside, come out through lyrics. It feels easier for myself, and I’m sure there are other artists that feel the same way.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve always had a deep love for music since a child, and I feel that all the variety of music that I listened to in my early days is what made have a ear for music. I would say listening to Michael Jackson so much, is what inspired me the most to start singing and dancing. I began recording at 18 years old, and from that moment, I knew it was what I wanted to do and pursue. I can make music in Spanish/English fluently, as Spanish was my first language, I think in Spanish even when I speak in English, and i believe that gives me a different creative process. I think what sets me apart from some, is that no matter what accomplishments or anything that goes in my life, I will forever be humble because of the roots implemented through my youth, and where I come from. Also from the fact that I never would want to be like anyone else, I try to be as different as possible by just being myself and expressing from my experiences. That’ what originality is all about, being yourself and letting your work speak for itself.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist, is just hearing the work after its finished, but for me is being able to connect with people. I think being able to express myself through a beat is the same way that someone can relate by listening and feeling the emotions from it, can help someone not feel alone. Music connects people all around the world, whether a break up, a significant loss, dancing, or working, music will have a place for anyone going through life obstacles. It brings people together. Also with a big enough platform that some artists acquire, you can leave and make a big impact on the world. My goal is to have that platform to not only inspire, and share positive energy, but to also to help those in need that are less fortunate. Specially the youth in some countries, and city’s where poverty is overlooked by the government, I want to be able to help them and provide them with basic necessities, and giving back to local communities.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Life is about taking risks, specially if its your dreams. I cant lie about it, I used to not think I could be able to perform one day because I never liked being around too many people. But I just go and do it because at the end of the day, you wont know how you’d feel if you don’t try it. Who cares what anyone thinks anyways, there’s always going to be hate and love when showing your craft to the world. Can’t let opinions get to your mind when doing what you love, it would only make your creative mind shift from what your original vision which is the whole point. But it’s also good to take any constructive criticism, as it can help you expand your ideas into masterpieces. I had to learn how to be more of a listener and receive help from other ears, to see it from a different view point.
