Troyster, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
From a young age, I’ve been deeply passionate about music. I grew up listening to a wide variety of genres, often watching music videos on YouTube and MTV, drawing inspiration from the artists I admired. This inspiration led me to sing, dance, and even rap—whether I was at home or out in public. Over time, I taught myself how to play basic chords on the guitar so I could perform the songs I loved.
My best friend also developed a love for music and learned to play guitar as well. During our teenage years, he built a home recording studio and invited me over to create music together. What started as casual jam sessions turned into a meaningful creative outlet for us both.
As I grew older, I experienced the loss of some of my favorite artists, which gave me two important realizations: life is short, and there might never be new music in the styles I cherished most. This realization motivated me to start releasing my own music, blending inspiration from the artists I grew up with into my own unique style.
My mission is to create music that resonates with others, brings them joy, and inspires the next generation of artists to follow their creative passions.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
What distinguishes me as an artist today is my versatility, as I am not confined to any particular genre. My exposure to a broad spectrum of music has fueled my passion for experimentation, allowing me to blend different melodies, rhythms, and lyrics. I see myself more as a music artist and writer than just a rapper or singer. When I have a clear vision for a song, I am dedicated to refining it until it aligns with that vision.
This commitment led me to build my own home studio, as I am determined to invest the time needed to perfect my vocal recordings. I also took the initiative to teach myself how to mix my vocals to ensure they complement the track perfectly. Along the way, I encountered numerous learning challenges, but overcoming them has been a crucial part of my growth as an artist.
In today’s competitive music industry, I understand that success requires resilience, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to progress. For now, releasing the songs I’ve created and truly love is a significant accomplishment, especially considering that I’ve handled much of the work on my own.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There are several rewarding aspects to being a music artist. I take great pride in the music I create, and it is incredibly fulfilling when fans share the same appreciation for my work—sometimes even knowing my lyrics better than I do. On occasion, I attend events where I encounter strangers or friends of friends, and they express their love for my music. Those moments always bring me immense joy.
When I begin working on a song, I experiment with various lyrical combinations, rhymes, and rhythms. Eventually, I discover a combination that resonates perfectly with the track’s vibe. This moment of alignment is deeply rewarding, as it feels like I’ve created something magical. The excitement that comes with this realization drives me to complete the song and eagerly share it with others.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Being a music artist is a tremendous amount of work. While I’m not yet where I want to be in terms of success, I’ve learned that having great music is only about 10% of the journey. There’s an extensive process behind creating music, including writing, recording, mixing, and mastering—all of which require distinct skill sets and significant time to develop. Managing all of this as one person can feel overwhelming, but with hard work and determination, it’s achievable.
Beyond the creation process, the release and promotion of music involve even more effort. This includes photoshoots, video production, branding, media and press outreach, advertising, and legal work. In fact, these elements arguably make up 90% of what determines an artist’s success, even if the music itself is exceptional. Being a music artist requires substantial time, money, and resources to handle all of the behind-the-scenes work, but the dedication to this craft is what makes it all worthwhile.
