Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Troy Gregory. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Troy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I’ve come to realize in business every so often there is a new business structure that comes along that has the potential to change the mold. In journalism, it is not common that a platform gives the everyday man and woman a platform to share their story. At HVMAN we encourage people to find truth in another person’s perspective, bringing people together one culture at a time, forming a global community. We not only focus on one on interviews about the person’s life story from their immaculate conception to who they are now but also connect people through an international group conversation by the name of Campfire Sessions. Campfire Sessions addresses events taking place in the global community, giving people from around the world a voice where they can share their perspectives and expertise on different subject matters. This segment provokes thoughtful conversation and provides resources that people can use in their everyday life. Almost every person that has come across our platform has told us that they haven’t experienced a platform like it before. To be on the verge of bringing a platform/community into fruition that helps people dive into themselves while giving them a voice for their story to be seen and heard by others on a global scale is refreshing to many that feel there is no place for them to be heard. The reason this matters most to me and to those who interact with our platform is because we all HVMAN and it is important for us to see the positive in learning from another person’s perspective.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into interviewing people from being homeless for 15 years where I discovered that you find some of the brightest minds in the darkest parts of the world. HVMAN was an idea that came to me in one of the moments where I was struggling to keep a roof over my head. I originally drew the logo first. I knew I wanted to do something with the logo but I didn’t know what it was I wanted to do with it. I went to a college radio station and asked a friend to join his radio program at the time. Unfortunately he decided to not pursue his show due to personal matters that had arisen at the time. I decided to ask the director of the college radio station to assign me an hour to start interviewing people and moved forward from there. Nowadays…
HVMAN is a multimedia platform that encourages people to find truth in another person’s perspective, bringing people together one culture at a time, forming a global community. HVMAN is broken down into multiple segments. Let me introduce them to below:
1. HVMAN focuses on one on one interviews that capture the person’s life story where they answer thought-provoking questions, allowing them to be transparent, giving them space to be themselves.
2. HVMAN [Campfire Sessions] Campfire Sessions addresses events taking place in the global community, giving people from around the world a voice where they can share their perspectives and expertise on different subject matters. This segment provokes thoughtful conversation and provides resources that people can use in their everyday life. Below are some examples of Campfire Sessions we have done in the past.
[Campfire Session] Subject Matters:
The Confidence War
The Confidence War addresses moments where we are at war with ourselves internally/externally and how it affects our confidence. In this session, we will be looking at what triggers these external/internal conflicts while exploring what we can do to build our confidence.
Sonic Alchemy
Sonic Alchemy is dedicated to the effect that music has on our lives. In this session, we will discuss the conscious and unconscious impact music has on us, how frequencies relay messages to the human body and how you can tell a lot about a person by the music they listen to.
The Will to Live
The Will to Live is dedicated to one of our supporter’s grandmothers who simultaneously battled pneumonia alongside covid-19 and persevered. In this session, we will be discussing what drives our will to live and the energy that goes behind it. The difference between those who strive to stay alive and those who unconsciously or consciously don’t put in the effort to survive.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I learned the art of communicating with compassion from watching a video online from Chris Do, who owns The Futur. The reason I find communicating with compassion important is because it encourages understanding an aspect of communication that is important in the field of journalism. People who decide to share their story on my platform/with the community I’m building come to do so because they trust in my ability to listen with intent and communicate with them in a way that not only gives them space to be themselves but also show them compassion as they share their life story with us.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Hmmm, one lesson I’ve learned in life is that we are all human and have our ups and downs that define us. I am constantly reminded of this lesson from the struggles that I go through while establishing HVMAN. I also talk to people who express their problems and how they navigate those struggles. It is essential to acknowledge our failures alongside our success, our perceived perfections beside our flaws this is what truly makes us human. In this age of social media where comparison can ruin the lives we have in front of for a second of a person’s life that we see in a still photo or 90-second reel. We need to cherish what we have in front of us, ourselves, and those who accept both our light and dark side. In the end, life is a journey, one that is not always easy but I’m constantly reminded to love myself despite what my perceived flaws are.
