We recently connected with Troy Green and have shared our conversation below.
Troy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I have always sought out leadership roles. Nearly every job has given me a promotion or raise, but it has always been a goal of mine to be a business owner. I’m extremely excited to be starting something new in addition to my music label. I am now a partner in a new restaurant called Gumbo 2 Geaux. This restaurant is a concept from my wife Kyndra Green. I couldn’t be happier with this idea becoming a reality. We’ve talked for years about having an authentic Cajun kitchen and how we would run it. We finally have a location and opening date. Our grand opening will be October 12th. We are located at 1808 Washington Avenue Alton, IL 62002. It has been an incredible journey. Everyday has been busy but I wouldn’t rather do anything else with anyone else.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Troy Green and I am a music producer, entrepreneur, and Gumbo 2 Geaux’s general manager. Gumbo 2 Geaux is where I have been focusing most of my attention. The brand started in 2020 as a catering company. We started with very humble beginnings and a few great recipes. Since then, we have done some major catering events. If you have followed our story, you might know about my music career as well. In 2018 I started the music label Green Room Productions. This company functions as a recording studio and an entertainment production agency. We record musicians in the Metro Saint Louis area at affordable prices. We also provide, music graphics, videos, and event booking. Through Green Room Productions I have released four studio albums that can be found on all music platforms (Apple, Spotify, Youtube, ect.) I have my fifth studio album planned to be released October 31st.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
There is a common misconception in business that you have to “Know somebody” to be successful. I do not fully agree with that. I prefer the statement “Someone has to know you.” You will come across many people who have the knowledge or are in a great position. Not all of these people are willing to help you. Someone will have to know of your character or work ethic. Someone needs to know how dedicated you are to your craft. That special someone will speak about your product. That person will help you to meet others. It will not happen overnight, but someone will hear about what you’re doing and want to help.

We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I met my business partner/wife Kyndra Green in college at LSU. We immediately shared a chemistry and started dating. Two years later we were married with our oldest son on the way. Today we have two sons (6 and 7) and we have been married for 7 years.
