Hi Tropical , thanks for joining us today. Before we talk about all of your success, let’s start with a story of failure. Can you open up about a time when you’ve failed?

No failures just areas of growth and opportunities. We keep striving and keep trying everyday.

Tropical , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

We’re more than a plant shop; we’re a peaceful escape. Tropical Express is open for those just beginning their plant journey, those who need an escape from the everyday shuffle of the city life, and for those who are advanced looking for that “hidden treasure of rare plants”. Our focus is making you feel at home while providing a personable experience. We take pride in customers enjoying our shop and helping curate “the vibe” in spaces of their own. Come visit us as you shop for plants. We’re located in the heart of Westside Atlanta, 970 Jefferson Street Atlanta, GA 30318.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Tropical Express is ever changing and always pivoting. From starting the business on the side of the road in The New School’s parking lot to having to move indoors due to the weather. We have had the resilience to pivot and create the same vibe in multiple locations. When we first moved to the Goat Farm, our first brick and mortar, we knew it would be a temporary space due to them wanting to renovate the area. Once the original plant shop was torn down. Finding a new location was a diligent and frustrating task in the city of Atlanta. So, pop ups were a solution until we find a building. We had a lot of offers but I’m glad we choose to partner with The Westside Future Fund for our current location.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

One of our biggest marketing accomplishments is reaching 10,000 followers on Instagram. We organically built this by connecting with each and every one of our customers. Each encounter matters. Every person who purchased a plant we asked for their social media and let them know that they could always reach out to us via social media. Sometimes brands want to reach the masses through popularity or over the top content. But if you want to find your true audience you have to get out there and network with them.
